Dudunsparce (Japanese: ノココッチ, HepburnNokokocchi) (duh-DUHN-sparse[1]) is a Normal-type Pokémon introduced in Generation IX.

Biology[]

Physiology[]

Dudunsparce is a Pokémon that is near identical to its pre-evolution, Dunsparce. However, its body is now longer with a segment added to it. Each segment has a pair of wings. The very end of the tail has gained a cap. It also now has three spikes coming from its chin and its eyes now appear to have eyelids.

Most Dudunsparce gain one segment, giving them two pairs of wings, but a few individuals gain two segments, giving them three pairs of wings.

Behavior[]

Dudunsparce are gentle in nature, and will carry Pokémon who wander into its den and guide them out.

Natural abilities[]

Dudunsparce is able to use its hard tail to bore holes into bedrock deep underground, creating nests that can reach up to six miles. It drives enemies out of its nest by sucking in air with its long narrow lungs and then releasing the air in an intense blast.

Dudunsparce and its pre-evolved form, Dunsparce, are the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Hyper Drill.

Evolution[]

Dudunsparce Evolves from Dunsparce when it's leveled up at least to 32 while having Hyper Drill.

    Trivia[]

    • Dudunsparce's Three-Segment Form is the tallest normal type.
    • Much like Wurmple and Tandemaus, Dundunsparce's evolution is determined by an encryption constant, with a 1/100 chance of being the Three-Segment Form.
      • That said, Three-Segment Form, so far, can only be acquired by evolution, as Wild Dudunsparce and those in Tera Raid Battles always appear in Two-Segment Form.
        • A way to have a higher odds of Three-Segment Form is transfering a Hardy Nature Dunsparce into Generation IX games, as Personality Values also affect Natures in Generation V.
    • Dudunsparce's cry is simply Dunsparce's in a lower pitch, and a portion of it repeating.

    Origin[]

In addition to Dunsparce's origins, Dudunsparce may be based on the ultrabithorax mutation seen in fruit flies that cause them to develop a second thorax with wings directly behind their own.

    Etymology[]

Dudunsparce's name originates from its pre-evolution Dunsparce, with the first two letters repeated. This is likely a reference to how the former looks very similar to the latter with the most notable change of gaining additional segment(s) on its body. This latter aspect could also imply double is involved, or dud (due to the lack of visible changes likely seeming disappointing).
