I am the last of the Pokémon League Elite Four, Drake the Dragon master! In their natural state, Pokémon are wild living things. They are free. At times, they hinder us. At times, they help us. Drake is a member of the Hoenn Elite Four. He specializes in Dragon-type Pokémon.

Appearance

Drake is an old, but tall and muscular man, who has a white mustache. Drake wears black sailor-like clothes with a Poké Ball emblem on them: a white hat and a ragged mantle with yellow outlines and stripes on his sleeves. Drake also wears blue trousers, buckled up with a dark belt and wears black boots.

Personality

Perhaps Drake's most defining personality trait is his smugness. Always, Drake is sure of himself and disregards anyone who doesn't believe in great power as he does. Drake is very competent and compelling in both his dialogue and battle style. His personality could be compared to that of a veteran sea captain.

Etymology

The name Drake likely comes from "drake" (a type of dragon) and possibly Sir Francis Drake (a British pirate, as he's a sailor).

His Japanese name, Genji, could originate from 幻獣 (genjū, mythical creature).

Games

Generation III

Drake is the fourth and final character whom the player faces at the Elite Four. He has two Flygons, both males and at level 53, but each of their four moves is different.

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire

Drake has the same base role as in the Generation III games. Like the other Elite Four trainers, Drake has a different lineup of Pokémon in his rematch. The two Flygons used by Drake in his first match are now distinctly gendered male and female each.

Aside from being battled, Drake can be found briefly on the S.S. Tidal. He is seen talking to Mr. Briney, showing that the two of them are friends. He also appears to be friends with Peeko, whom he is happy to see.
