A Double Battle is a type of Pokémon battle that was introduced in Generation III. A Double Battle involves four Pokémon being on the battlefield at once, but more specifically, two Pokémon facing off against two other Pokémon.
In games[]
Double Battles are a somewhat uncommon occurrence in the games, although they are present in most if not all of them.
Double Battles tend to consist of two Pokémon Trainers against the player. In some places, the Trainers may be placed in a position that running into their line of sight will cause both of them to approach the player and initiate a Pokémon battle.
Other Double Battles include the player fighting against one single Trainer who has multiple Pokémon at their disposal.
Gym Leaders rarely use a Double Battle format, with only three of them using it; Tate and Liza, Raihan and Ryme.
