Dive is a damaging Water-type move introduced in Generation III. Players can receive the HM containing this move in the Generation III games from Steven Stone in Mossdeep City. This move cannot be used outside of battle without the Mossdeep City Gym Badge. Dive comes back in Generation V, where the player can receive it in Undella Town from a woman by Cynthia's Villa. However, it can only be used to explore Abyssal Ruins in Undella Bay.

Description[]

Games Description
RSE Dives underwater the first turn and strikes next turn.
FRLG The user dives underwater on the first turn and strikes next turn.
DPPtHGSS A two-turn attack. The user dives underwater on the first turn, then hits on the next turn.
BWB2W2 Diving on the first turn, the user floats up and attacks on the second turn. It can be used to dive deep in the ocean.
XY
SMUSUM
Diving on the first turn, the user floats up and attacks on the next turn.
ORAS Diving on the first turn, the user floats up and attacks on the next turn. It can be used to dive deep in the ocean.

Effect[]

In Battle[]

Dive causes the user to become invulnerable on the first turn and then deals damage on the second turn. Surf and can still hit the submerged foe, and it will deal twice the damage as they normally do.

Outside of Battle[]

In Hoenn and Unova, Dive allows players to go underwater in specific areas of water while surfing.
