Personality[]

Diantha seems to be a polite and classy woman who talks formally and she is kind to the player character when they challenge her once more.

Etymology[]

The name Diantha comes from "Dianthus", a genus of flowers and ánthos (flower).

Her Japanese name, Karune, comes from the "carnation" flower and possibly "coronation".

Biography[]

The first time the player character encounters Diantha is in Café Soleil, a scarlet-painted café in South Boulevard, accompanied by Serena/Calem, where she can be seen chatting to Lysandre. Lysandre compliments Diantha of how well she portrayed a young girl on the silver screen; he then inquires whether she would like to remain young forever and always play such roles. Diantha then replies, saying about how unusual his question was. Lysandre next directly informs the player character of Diantha's great acting.

As soon as Lysandre leaves the café, Diantha politely asks the player character and the friend they are accompanied by who they are, which perfectly accentuates her sociable disposition.

She is later encountered in the Seaside Station in Coumarine City with Professor Sycamore. After Sycamore leaves, she comments on the power of bonds and asks to battle the player character the next time they meet. She is not seen again until the end of the main story where she is revealed to be the champion of the Kalos region.

After the player character becomes the Champion, Diantha reappears at Café Soleil, waiting for the player character to trade one of the Pokémon for a Ralts holding a Gardevoirite. When the player character reaches the highest rank in Battle Chateau, Grand Duke/Grand Duchess, she starts appearing as a Grand Duchess as the strongest trainer encountered in the Battle Chateau.
