Dark Void is a Dark-type move introduced in Generation IV. It's the signature move of Darkrai.
Description[]
Games | Description |
---|---|
DPPtHGSS | The foe is dragged into a world of total darkness that puts it to sleep. |
BWB2W2 XYORAS SMUSUM |
Opposing Pokémon are dragged into a world of total darkness that makes them sleep. |
Effect[]
In battle[]
Prior to Generation VII:
Dark Void causes the target to fall asleep. In a Double Battle, Dark Void targets both foes. In a Triple Battle, Dark Void only targets adjacent foes. Dark Void has no effect on Pokémon with Insomnia or Vital Spirit. Under certain game rules such as those found in Pokémon Battle Revolution, if the current rules of Battle disallow two Pokémon to be asleep on the same team and Dark Void is used in a Double Battle, the move can hit one Pokémon but if it does, it will be forced to miss the other Pokémon.
From Generation VII onwards:
Dark Void can only be used by Darkrai. If a Pokémon other than Darkrai tries to use Dark Void via Assist, Metronome, or having learned it through Sketch, the battle text "But Pokémon can't use the move!" will be displayed. However, transforming into Darkrai before the move is executed still works.

Trivia[]
- This move has received more nerfs than any other move. This is also the only move that got multiple nerfs in the same generation.
- The nerfs it got have been user limitations (getting reduced to just Darkrai, which was to counter Smeargle using it in competitive) and reduced accuracy (went from 80% to 50%, to stop players from being able to put multiple Pokémon to sleep at once)
- These nerfs made Darkrai barely used at all, and when it was, it had to rely on Hypnosis of all moves just to make use of its Bad Dreams ability.
