Hareta's Very First Pokémon Battle!! (ハレタ、 初のポケモンバトル!! Hareta's First Pokémon Battle!!) is the 2nd chapter of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure!: Volume 1.


Hareta and Mitsumi arrive at Jublife City and Hareta is excited to see the city and climbs around the city. When he is later continuing his journey to search for Dialga, he encounters Team Galactic for the first time and they capture him. After being saved by Roark, Hareta battles Roark, his official first Gym Battle.

Chapter plot

Hareta and Mistumi arrive at Jublife City and Hareta is very excited to see the big city. He starts to climb around, shocking the people he encounters. Hareta sees in the distance that there is something going on and goes to it. On the street, a journalist is doing an interview when Hareta stands in front of the camera and asks what it is. The journalist talks to Hareta and explains what Pokémon are and what a Gym Leader is. Both Hareta and the journalist then decide to have a Pokémon battle with each other. Hareta throws his Poké Ball but the Poké Ball gets stuck in between the legs of the cameraman and Piplup pops out of the Poké Ball, struggling to get out of the legs.

Mitsumi finds Hareta and says to him that he can't just go anywhere he wants to. As she said that, Hareta is already gone. Hareta and Piplup dashes of to continuing their journey, they encounter two Team Galactic grunts and captures them by using String Shot. They were brought to the Oreburgh Mine and were held there. Mitsumi finds out and wants to save Hareta and Piplup but a man stops Mitsumi and says that she need to leave it to him.

The unknown man appears and it is revealed to be Roark, the Oreburgh Gym Leader, and stops the two grunts and saves Hareta and Piplup. Piplup is exhausted and Roark gives Hareta an Oran Berry to heal up Piplup. Hareta then challenges Roark to a Gym Battle and Roark accepts the challenge. At the begin of the battle, the battle is in favor of Roark but then, he sees that Hareta is learning from the Pokémon Battle and is improving. Roark decided then to finish to the battle off with a Zen Headbutt. At first sight, it seems that Piplup is knocked out but then Hareta calls Piplup to use Bide and knocks out Cranidos, winning the battle. Roark gives him the badge and the chapter ends with a boy sitting on the mountain, watching them.
