DP175: Opposites Interact!/Transcript

This is a transcript of the Pokémon: DP Sinnoh League Victors episode: "Opposites Interact!"

Narrator

The Pokémon Contest to end all Pokémon Contests, the Grand Festival is finally underway! Excitement and hopes for a big win are running high, and rivals Zoey, Nando, Ursula, Jessilina and Dawn have all made it through round one, the Performance Stage! However, in a surprise upset, Kenny failed to make the cut. And so, as our Heroes and their friends eye round two, the Battle Stage, Kenny leaves them, and the Grand Festival, behind.

[The opening theme and title card plays.]

[Outside, Dawn is training her six Pokémon.]

Dawn

Mamoswine, use Ice Shard! Cyndaquil, use Flame Wheel!

[Mamoswine throws an Ice Shard while Cyndaquil starts rolling. The two moves collide, forcing Cyndaquil up into the air.]

Dawn

Piplup, use Bubble Beam! All right Togekiss, use Safeguard now!

[Piplup shoots bubbles while Togekiss lights itself in a green aura, absorbing the bubbles.]

Dawn

Pachirisu, use Super Fang! Buneary, use Bounce!

[Pachirisu extends and glows its fang, and pounces towards Buneary. Buneary dodges by jumping in the nick of time, then using its move on Pachirisu.]

Dawn

Quick, Pachirisu, dodge it!

[Pachirisu dodges as Buneary lands.]

Brock

All their moves are looking great. Can't wait to see round two.

Ash's Pikachu

Pika-Pika.

Ash Ketchum

Dawn won't train more than me. Hey, Gible. Want to do a little work?

Ash's Gible

Gible!

[Gible walks a distance away.]

Ash Ketchum

Gible, use Draco Meteor!

Ash's Gible

Gible!

[Gible shoots a meteor up in the sky. It pops, splitting into two...]

Ash Ketchum

Awesome. Two Draco Meteors!

Ash's Gible

Gib!

[..and fall in a wavy pattern. Ash and Pikachu become worried. Both meteors fall towards Piplup, causing him to scream in panic and Dawn and Togekiss to be concerned. Togekiss flies up and bats the two meteors with his wings, causing them to hit Ash, Pikachu and Gible instead. Zoey and Nando arrive.]

Zoey

Good grief. Kind of early for this much noise.

Dawn

Zoey!

Ash Ketchum

Hey, Nando!

Zoey

Your performance yesterday was so good. You guys must've trained a lot.

Dawn

(Playfully) We did. After all, I plan on winning, you know.

Zoey

Tell me how you really feel! But don't let your guard down just yet. Round one may be over, but there's more to come.

Dawn

Zoey, I know that. No need to worry.

Dawn's Piplup

Pip-Piplup!

Nando

A Pokémon's potential is limitless. So during your Contest Battle today, I'll be expecting nothing less than a brilliant performance from all of you that will inspire everyone.

Dawn

Thanks.

Brock

Thirty-two Coordinators may have passed round one, but in order to win the Grand Festival, one of them needs to win five more times. Just think of it, Dawn could be matched up against Zoey, or even Nando.

Ash Ketchum

Yeah!

Ash's Pikachu

Pika!

Zoey

Can't wait. You up for that?

Dawn

Mm-hm. That's why I'm working so hard. Don't want to have a need to worry later.

Zoey

Huh?

[Cut to Team Rocket, treated to plenty on the table.]

Meowth

Sweet! The Grand Festival's better than an all-you-can-eat diner. Three squares a day, every day. It's the Grand Festival way!

Wobbuffet

Wob-buffet!

James

(Mouthful) We'll be cheering for you with bellies full of food. So make it good.

Jessie

I don't need any stinking cheering.

[The other members react surprised.]

Wobbuffet

Wobbu-wob?

Jessie

(Chuckling) I couldn't lose now if you paid me. But make sure you don't give up your day job.

James

Day job? Retail?

Jessie

(Angrily) Sell like there's no tomorrow! (Normally) Victory is Jessilina's middle name. And the absolutely winningest, top-of-the-charts Coordinator is Jessilina's game.

[Jessie continues laughing. James and Meowth look at each other in the foreground.]

Meowth and James

Hm.

[Meanwhile, at Lake Valor, our heroes are inside the locker room.]

Ash Ketchum

Pachirisu and Mamoswine?

[Dawn is in her contest outfit with two Pokéballs.]

Dawn

Yup. I decided to use them both awhile ago. Together they'll be great.

Brock

Makes sense. Their Ice and Electric combination moves should work well in a Contest Battle.

Dawn

And since we trained a whole bunch, we're all in perfect sync.

Ash Ketchum

Wow, I can't wait to see that! We'll be cheering you on. Right?

Ash's Pikachu

Pika!

Dawn's Piplup

Piplup!

Ursula

My, my...

All

Huh?

Ursula

What do you know. If it isn't sweet little Dawn.

Dawn

Ursula.

Ursula

I had the less-than-great pleasure of seeing your performance yesterday. As usual, sheer dumb luck appears to have gotten you past the Performance Stage, and I hate to burst your bubble, but you're hardly capable of winning this.

Dawn

(Annoyed) What did you say?

Ursula

However, I do hope you make it to the final round. That way, when I beat you, you'll make me look all that much better. Agreed?

Dawn

(Annoyed) No I do not!

Ash Ketchum

(Annoyed) 'Cause it's Dawn who's going to win!

Dawn's Piplup

(Annoyed) Piplup!

Ash's Pikachu

(Annoyed) Pika-ka!

Ursula

I think not. The only Coordinator who's going to deliver a beautiful, flawless and elegant performance is I. You can spell "I", can't you?

Dawn

(Annoyed) Be quiet! I'm winning this!

Marian

Yesterday, it was round one. Today, it's round two. And the journey and judging continue. Ladies and Gentlemen. Round two is soon to get underway at the Pokémon Contest Grand Festival!

[The crowd cheers.]

Marian

And now it's time to reveal the very first match-ups of Round Two. So, please direct your attention toward the big screen. The first round of Contest Battles will be separated into four blocks. A, B, C, and D. And the two Contestants who will be battling it out in Block A are...

[Ursula and Dawn are revealed to be facing each other. Dawn grunts and stares at Ursula, who shows a competitive look.]

Ash Ketchum

They've been matched up again.

Ash's Pikachu

Pika-pika!

Brock

Her double evolution in the Performance Round was really impressive. Ursula's going to be tough...

Dawn's Piplup

Pip-Piplup!

[Outside, Team Rocket minus Jessie are hosting an item stall.]

James

Step right up and gawk at all the grand goodies! Have we got Lakeside Resort postcards, Grand Festival pennants, limited edition key chains, and glossy photos, you're asking? Why we've got the complete collection of Coordinators and you can only cop them all here.

[A large horde of customers gather around the front of the stall.]

Male Customer 1

Ooh, I'll buy a postcard and a pennant.

Female Customer

I'll take three, no, five key chains!

Male Customer 2

Uh, I'd like a photo of Nando.

[Meowth and Wobbuffet are keeping up with customers' orders.]

Meowth

Postcards coming right up. Key chains coming right up. Pictures coming right up. And up and up and up and up.

James

We owe the Grand Festival a debt of gratitude for allowing us to gross a gob of green.

Meowth

(Chuckles) I love going green!

James & Meowth

A magnificent money-making scene!

Wobbuffet

Wob-buffet!

Marian

So, get ready for the much-anticipated Contest Battles. Allow these Pokémon to dazzle and delight, as they face each other in Double Battles. Our contestants in Block A will be: On my left, Dawn, and on my right, Ursula.

Ash Ketchum

Go for it, Dawn! Show them all who's the winner!

[Pikachu and Piplup cheer on Dawn. The scoreboard displays two icons with circular bars listed below them, along with a 5-minute timer at the bottom of the screen.]

Marian

Five minutes on the clock. Begin!

[The clock starts.]

Dawn

Pachirisu, Mamoswine, Spot...light!

[Dawn throws her Pokéballs up. As the first one opens, a shower of stars of different colors fly out and form a bigger star. The bigger star lights up and shatters, revealing Pachirisu.]

Dawn's Pachirisu

Chipa-Chipa!

[The second Pokéball opens up. A cyan ribbon corkscrews around a white beam of light. Mamoswine appears on the ground.]

Dawn's Mamoswine

Mamo!

Ursula

Gabite and Flareon, go!

[As Gabite's Pokéball opens, confetti float out.]

Ursula's Gabite

Gabite!

[Flareon's Pokéball opens, unveiling a ball of fire which lands on the ground. The fire disappears.]

Ursula's Flareon

Flareon!

Fantina

Ooh la la! I have been waiting for this! Très exciting!

Nurse Joy

Fantina, contain yourself, please.

Nando

Wow, Pachirisu and Mamoswine, Gabite and Flareon.

Zoey

I can't wait to see this battle. It'll be great.

[Jessie appears behind Zoey and Nando, looking grumpy.]

Jessie

If you're into crashing bores then it'll be great. My victory's a foregone conclusion. They should stop wasting my time and give me what's mine.

Dawn

Pachirisu, use Discharge!

[Pachirisu executes discharge.]

Ursula

Gabite, block that move, now!

[Gabite steps in-front of Flareon and blocks the move.]

Ash Ketchum

Whoa, what a block.

Brock

Gabite is a Ground-type so Discharge has no effect.

Dawn

I thought that's what you'd do. Mamoswine, attack Gabite with Take Down!

[With Discharge being inherited, Mamoswine charges forward, hitting Gabite, who blasts into and collides with Flareon, causing Flareon to be electrocuted with Discharge.]

Ursula

No way!

Marian

Engulfed by Pachirisu's Discharge, Mamoswine executes a brilliant attack, and Dawn scores first!

Fantina

Oh! C'est magnifique!

Ash Ketchum

Do it, Pachirisu and Mamoswine!

Ash's Pikachu

Pika-Pika!

Dawn's Piplup

Piplup!

Ursula

That was a smart move... but she won't stay that smart for much longer. Gabite, use Sandstorm!

[Gabite executes sandstorm. Mamoswine flinches while Pachirisu is blown away. Flareon jumps to the top of the sandstorm as it whips up into the sky. Dawn grunts, trying to protect herself from the dust.]

Dawn

Mamoswine, use Ancient Power to destroy that Sandstorm!

[Mamoswine glows a white aura and sets up the move.]

Ursula

You can't do that! Flareon, Scary Face!

[At the top of the sand whirlwind, Flareon pulls off Scary Face, startling Mamoswine. The Scary then appears past the Sandstorm, causing Mamoswine to be even more scared. Gabite and Flareon stop. The scoreboard updates.]

Marian

And an even scarier looking Scary Face, using Gabite's Sandstorm! Ursula's maximized Flareon's move!

Brock

Dawn's battling really well, but the momentum's trending towards Ursula.

Ash Ketchum

(Confident) No need to worry, they're just getting started!

Ash's Pikachu

Pika-Pika!

Dawn's Piplup

Piplup-Piplup!

Dawn

Mamoswine! Pachirisu! Snap out of it!

[Both Pokémon obey.]

Dawn

That's it! You ready?

Dawn's Pachirisu

Chipa!

Dawn's Mamoswine

Mamo!

Dawn

Pachirisu, use Super Fang on Flareon! Mamoswine, use Ice Shard on Gabite!

[Both Pokémon sets up their move as the former charges forward.]

Dawn's Pachirisu

Chipa-chipa-chipaaa!

Dawn's Mamoswine

Mamo...

Ursula

Gabite, now, use Double Team!

[Gabite creates several copies of itself. The copies surround Pachirisu and Mamoswine in separate rings.]

Ursula

Now, Flareon, use Shadow Ball!

[Flareon shoots two Shadow Balls. The Gabite copies in the line of fire fade away, causing the unaware Pachirisu and Mamoswine to be struck by Shadow Ball, the former being blasted. The judges gasp in shock.]

Fantina

Dear me!

[Mamoswine and Pachirisu are both downed and struggling.]

Dawn

Mamoswine, Pachirisu!

[Dawn's scoreboard updates. She only has half the bar left.]

Dawn's Piplup

(Worried) Piplup?

Ash's Pikachu

(Worried) Pikachu!

Dawn

(Determined) Get up, the both of you! I know you can do it!

[Dawn's Pokémon get up in determination.]

Ursula

Hmph. That's right, keep on trying. It's very important that you try, try again and then lose miserably. It's your job to make me look great.

[Dawn grumbles in anger.]

[Gabite's Double Team continue to surround Mamoswine.]

Ursula

Flareon, use Shadow Ball, rapid fire!

[Flareon fires several Shadow Balls. Pachirisu tries to dodge them, while Mamoswine keeps getting hit by them.]

Dawn

Pachirisu, Mamoswine!

Brock

Dawn can't get a move in. The judges aren't able to evaluate her skills.

Dawn's Piplup

Piplup!

Ash Ketchum

Hey Dawn, hang in there! Wait for your chance! That's all you can do!

Ash's Pikachu

Pikachu!

[Pachirisu and Mamoswine are hurt from the attacks. Dawn grunts in annoyance as the Gabite clones fade out.]

Ursula

Well, I guess this is it Dawn. The battle's mine. Get used to it.

Dawn

(To herself) They stopped attacking. Now's our chance! (To her Pokémon) Mamoswine, quick, Ice Shard!

[Mamoswine loads up Ice Shard.]

Dawn

Now shatter the ice with your tusks! Pachirisu, run!

[Pachirisu, struggling, starts running.]

Ursula

Useless! Flareon, use Fire Spin!

[Flareon shoots a fire swirl, extinguishing Ice Shard.]

Ursula

Gabite, use Dragon Claw!

[Gabite hits and blasts Pachirisu with the move. Dawn's bar shrinks further. Piplup, Pikachu, Ash and Brock gasp in shock.]

Dawn

Get up, Pachirisu! Mamoswine, use Ice Shard again!

[Pachirisu struggles to get up. Mamoswine loads up another Ice Shard. Outside the stadium, the stall is empty, with just a few cards left on the counter.]

James

Sweet success. We've nothing left but an empty counter. And money's much easier to carry than product.

Wobbuffet

Wob-bub-bu!

Meowth

What about this card? For some reason it didn't sell.

[The card reveals a picture of Jessilina in her pink outfit, causing them to groan and sweat. the crowd cheer, distracting them.]

Team Rocket

Huh?

Marian

Well, we're at the two minute warning. And Dawn can't seem to get out from under Ursula's constant onslaught of attacks.

Meowth

A troubled twerpette. That twirly-haired twerpette's rocking the house.

James

I hope Jessie's taking care of her house. We'd better go lend her support in case she winds up short.

Meowth

Yeah, good idea. Since we're loaded with dough, let's go dig the show.

Wobbuffet

Wob-baa!

Ursula

You're wasting your time. Flareon, use Fire Spin!

[Fire Spin extinguishes Ice Shard once again.]

Nurse Joy

My! Gorgeous!

Fantina

C'est très magnifique. Such artistry. C'est très bien.

Brock

Thing is, if Dawn can't use any moves, she can't get any points.

Ash Ketchum

Don't sweat it, Brock. I'm sure Dawn'll figure something out.

Ash's Pikachu

Pika-Pika!

Dawn's Piplup

Piplup!

[Mamoswine and Pachirisu pant in exhaustion.]

Ursula

Thank you all very much for making my Fire Spin even more beautiful. Making me look better is what this is all about. Right, Dawn?

Dawn

Huh?

[Dawn looks up at the scoreboard. With 1:30 left, her bar is at less than a quarter. Mamoswine and Pachirisu continue to pant in exhaustion.]

Dawn

Mamoswine, use Ice Shard again! Pachirisu, out in front!

[Dawn's Pokémon obey as Mamoswine loads up Ice Shard.]

Ursula

Guess you'll never learn. Gabite, use Dragon Claw! Flareon, use Fire Spin!

[Ursula's Pokémon get ready to pounce.]

Dawn

Pachirisu, jump and dodge them, then Spark!

[Pachirisu jumps past Gabite, dodging Dragon Claw, then hits the unsuspecting Flareon with Spark.]

Dawn

Now, Mamoswine!

Dawn's Mamoswine

Mamo...swine!

[Ice Shard is released in several clusters. The clusters surround Pachirisu and form a ball, which glows bright.]

Ursula

What in the world is that?!

[The glow fades, revealing Pachirisu inside an ice ball.]

Dawn

Pachirisu, use Discharge!

[Pachirisu executes the move and starts running inside the ball.]

Dawn

It works! Ice Chandelier is a success.

Marian

An amazing combination from Pachirisu and Mamoswine! It's sparkling beautifully.

[The crowd cheer. Ursula's bar shrinks to less than half. Pikachu and Piplup cheer.]

Ash Ketchum

(Excited) Of course! That's Dawn's brand new move.

[A flashback shows of Buneary shooting Ice Beam inside Pachirisu, forming an ice ball.]

Dawn

All that training with Buneary was so worth it. Now, Pachirisu. Let's go!

[Pachirisu yells and charges towards their targets.]

Ursula

That silly move's no match for us. Quick, Gabite, use Dig now!

[Gabite digs down a hole underground.]

Ursula

Flareon, jump in too!

[Flareon obeys. Dawn grunts, along with Ash and Brock. Pachirisu collides the ball into the wall, shattering it and blasting the Pokémon.]

Dawn

Pachirisu, no!

[As Pachirisu lands back down, Gabite and Flareon jump back up right behind it.]

Ursula

Flareon, use Shadow Ball!

[Flareon hits and hurts Pachirisu with the move.]

Dawn

Mamoswine, attack using Hidden Power, go!

[Mamoswine shoots bullets.]

Ursula

Gabite, now use Dig!

[Gabite digs down again. Flareon jumps inside Gabite's hole to dodge Hidden Power.]

Dawn's Mamoswine

Mamo?

Ursula

Flareon, Shadow Ball, let's go!

[Gabite and Flareon jump out of the hole behind Mamoswine. Flareon hits Mamoswine with the move.]

Dawn

Mamoswine!

[The scoreboard updates.]

Marian

Less than one minute left.

[More scenes of Dawn's Pokémon getting hit by a variety moves are shown. In the crowd, Ash calls out while Pikachu and Piplup wave their arms frantically in desperation.]

Ash Ketchum

Keep it up, Dawn! It's not over until it's over!

Ash's Pikachu

Pika-Pika!

Dawn's Piplup

Piplup-Piplup!

Dawn

Pachirisu, Mamoswine, Stay strong!

[They both struggle but manage to get up.]

Dawn

(To herself) Blocked our attacks again! Now what?

Ursula

I'm bored! Gabite, Dragon Claw!

[Gabite closes in on Mamoswine with Dragon Claw. Cut to a stressed Dawn, in a purple background.]

Dawn

(To herself) I've got to do something. (Realizes, normal screen) Of course! Pachirisu, quick! Jump down into that hole!

[Pachirisu obeys.]

Dawn

Mamoswine, use Ice Shard!

[Mamoswine loads Ice Shard, but Gabite hits him.]

Ursula

Flareon, use Fire Fang!

[Mamoswine is hit again with Fire Fang.]

Ursula

Of course! It's as good as mine.

[Mamoswine struggles, but executes the move. The Shards fall inside each of the holes in the ground.]

Dawn

Pachirisu, Discharge!

[All the holes light up with Electricity.]

Ursula

Huh?! Now what?

Dawn

It's called determination. All right Mamoswine, Ancient Power, down on the ground!

[Mamoswine pounds the ground and executes the move. A light trail travels across the arena. Pachirisu, in an ice ball, breaks out of another hole, facing both of Ursula's Pokémon.]

Ursula

Huh?!

[Zoey and Nando watch on.]

Brock

What a great idea. They've still got a chance to win.

Ash Ketchum

You can pull this thing right out of the hat! Show them how it's done, you three!

Ash's Pikachu

Pika-Pika!

Dawn's Piplup

Piplup!

[Pachirisu runs, rolling the ice ball like a hamster ball, gaining momentum. It U-turns and runs again, striking both Gabite and Flareon close together. It U-turns and rolls again towards them.]

Ursula

Gabite, use Sandstorm, now! Flareon, use Fire Spin!

Dawn

Mamoswine, use Hidden Power on Pachirisu!

[Mamoswine intercepts Fire Spin with Hidden Power. Pachirisu continues running, hitting Gabite and Flareon once again. The ice ball shatters.]

Ursula

Gabite, Flareon, stay strong!

[The clock ticks down from 15 seconds. Pachirisu lands safely.]

Dawn

Mamoswine, use Hidden Power! Pachirisu, Discharge!

[Both of Dawn's Pokémon load up their moves.]

Ursula

Sorry, too late! Now, Gabite and Flareon, dodge! Huh?

[Mamoswine and Pachirisu cancel their moves, surprised. It is revealed that both Gabite and Flareon have fainted. The crowd cheers.]

Marian

Gabite and Flareon are unable to battle. And the winner of the second round is...Dawn!

Mr. Contesta

An Ice Chandelier, from Ice and Electricity. A surprising round. And a brilliant idea.

Mr. Sukizo

Brilliant, and remarkable.

Nurse Joy

Who would have thought the first battle would be so exciting? I couldn't be happier.

Fantina

It was fantastique and incroyable. If my excitement could be measured in raindrops, we would be in the midst of a flood.

Dawn

Yeah!

[Pikachu and Piplup jump up a down, elated.]

Ash Ketchum

(Happy) Alright!

Brock

(Happy) You did it, Dawn!

Nando

To be able to use her opponent's Dig the way Dawn did, who would have ever thought? A most interesting and thought-provoking battle.

Zoey

A rough start, but an awesome win for Dawn. And now, this battle is behind her.

[Jessie is sweating with her fists clenched.]

Jessie

Okay, do I freak out now, or later? After all, it's just my life on the line, twerpette or not. So, am I up yet? Are we having fun yet?

Marian

And now time to move on to the second battle. So please, give a big hand to our next two Coordinators!

[The crowd roars into a frenzy. The screen fades to black. Back in the lounge, Ursula is sat on her own with her suitcase.]

Ursula

But how? I lost? And after all my brilliance?

Dawn

I agree.

Ursula

Huh?

Dawn

I didn't think I could win either until the very end. (Offers a handshake) Ursula, you were awesome.

[Ursula feels more relaxed.]

Ursula

Right. I was awesome.

[Ursula stands up.]

Ursula

Your victory today was dumb luck and we know it. Now we'll just see how far that dumb luck of yours will take you. See you later, Dee Dee...

[Ursula walks away and closes the door behind her. She breathes a sigh of relief.]

Marian

Not to be outdone by Block A, blocks B, C and D are putting on equally impressive and elegant battles, as the Coordinators dwindle down to the final sixteen Contestants.

[Jessilina is seen waving to the fans with her two Pokémon.]

James

Wow, Jessie jazzed them again!

Meowth

I like to think of our cheerleading as an investment in our health.

Wobbuffet

Wobbu-Wobbu.

[Back in the locker room.]

Jessie

Now didn't I tell you? I don't need a peanut gallery to win?

James

Come on, it couldn't hurt. We moved the merchandise and made money.

Jessie

Really? Then what about the sack?

[Meowth rummages and find a card inside the sack he's holding.]

Meowth

These? They're nothing. For some reason these cards ended up collecting dust balls.

Wobbuffet

Wo-Wo-Wobbu.

[Jessie takes Meowth's card and takes a look at the photo, depicting herself in her pink maid uniform.]

Jessie

(Evil eyes, sustained voice) Me?!

[The rest of Team Rocket become scared. Jessie brings out a marker pen and signs on the card.]

Jessie

I'll fix this in no time. Glamour trading cards signed by Jessilina herself. They'll move so fast you'll get windburn. Number one in contests and card sales.

[Jessie laughs. The rest of Team Rocket become worried. Meanwhile, outside the building.]

Ash Ketchum

That was a great battle, Dawn.

Dawn's Piplup

Piplup!

Brock

And now Zoey and Nando have won too, so think what's in store.

Dawn

Yeah.

Brock

All the best, Dawn.

Ash Ketchum

Yeah, good luck, Dawn.

Dawn

Thanks. No need to worry.

Narrator

After a brilliant eleventh hour victory against Ursula, Dawn is moving onto the second contest battle round. Of course, being in such talented company, one never knows who will claim victory. But the way to find out is to stay tuned.

[The caption "To Be Continued" shows at the bottom of the screen. The credits appear.]
