Try for the Family Stone! (Japanese: ムウマとヤミカラスとやみのいし!, HepburnMisdreavus, Murkrow and the Dark Stone!) is the 44th episode of Pokémon: DP Galactic Battles.

Synopsis[]

While heading toward Sunyshore City and Ash's next Gym Battle, our heroes get lost in a dark forest. They come across a mischievous Murkrow that creates what turn out to be fearful illusions. That Murkrow happens to be in the care of a Trainer named Mitchell, who has a sister named Rhyanna. Mitchell and Rhyanna haven't been speaking to each other since Mitchell took off into the mountains to train with his Murkrow—with the goal of finally beating his sis in battle. Now Rhyanna wants to find a Dusk Stone so she can evolve her Misdreavus into a Mismagius. She hopes the evolved Pokémon will help her brother become happy again. However, the angry Mitchell thinks Rhyanna's purpose is to keep winning battles against him!

That brings us to Team Rocket. Of course, their eyes are on getting themselves a Mismagius and a Dusk Stone, too—and what better way than to steal Rhyanna's Pokémon? With Brock's help, Rhyanna has found a Dusk Stone, which goes to the top of Team Rocket's must-steal list, along with Rhyanna's Misdreavus. But, even with Team Rocket's latest invention, the "Porta-Pidgey Mark Two" robot, the would-be thieves aren't able to hold onto Rhyanna's Misdreavus or the Dusk Stone.

Finally, Rhyanna and Mitchell discuss their issues and make up, happily deciding that the winner of the best of 10 battles between them gets to keep the prized Dusk Stone. And, happy in the knowledge that they helped to reunite the quarreling siblings, our heroes resume their journey toward Sunyshore City.[1]

Episode plot[]

On their way to Sunnyshore City, the appearance of a Murkrow marks a bad omen for the group. While Ash isn't very superstitious, the appearance of a Giratina catches the group completely off-guard. They run, attempting to escape, but are swept away in a flood of rushing water. They're rescued by Rhyanna who explains that what they're seeing is the effects of a Pokemon's attack. She confesses that her brother, Mitchell, is training in the mountains and has been playing pranks on other travelers with her Pokemon. She explains how she is here to find a Dusk Stone to evolve her Misdreavus into a Mismagius hoping that she can cast a happiness spell over her brother to bring him home. Elsewhere, Team Rocket, eavesdropping on the conversation, reveal their dowsing rods which they'll use to find a Dusk Stone first. Coming to a shrine, Ryhanna tells them that this is where they can find Dusk Stones. Splitting up, they begin to search until Ash and Dawn encounter Mitchell who is attempting to attack them. Defending themselves, they knock out Mitchell's pokemon. Dawn begins to explain what's going on to him which brings him pause. Team Rocket meanwhile falls off a cliff on their hunt for a Dusk Stone. They would consider what they would do with such a stone, and Meowth suggests turning a Misdreavus into a Mismagius, though first they must find a Misdreavous. That is when they begin to target Rhyanna's Misdreavus. As Mitchell attempts to run, he is stopped by Ash and it is revealed that Mitchell has lost control of his Murkrow due to mistreating it while training it. He says he wants to find the Dusk Stone for himself and steal it so that he can finally beat his sister, but Ash and Dawn cause him to realize that the only path to victory is through understanding his Pokemon. It is then that Mitchell apologizes to his Pokemon and makes up with it. Ryhanna and Brock continue to follow her Misdreavus until they find a large rock. Leveraging the rock to roll over, they find a dusk stone. But before it can be used, Team Rocket appears to take it from them, along with Misdreavus. Brock and Ryhanna fight Team Rocket, and eventually Ash, Dawn and Mitchell show up to help out. They manage to break Misdreavus free and send Rocket Blasting off. Rhyanna and Mitchel then make up and proceed to hold pokemon battle matches to see who will win the Dusk Stone.
