Crispin is a character appearing in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero (The Indigo Disk). He is a student attending in Blueberry Academy and one of the members of BB League's Elite Four. His specialty is in Fire type Pokemon.

Appearance

Crispin is a young boy with a slender appearance. He has red and orange hair and black and yellow eyes. He wears a white and red chef's jacket, white and blue shorts, a red single glove, red and orange shoes, matching the colors of his hair. He is often seen carrying a frying pan, which he uses to cook on the spot and also for self-defense if the need arises.

Personality

Crispin enjoys cooking, wanting to take over his parents' restaurant when he grows older. He admits that outside of cooking, he isn't able to control the "temperature" on anything else and can be somewhat absentminded, as shown when he did not realize the scope of the situation after the player defeated Kieran. He is also fond of his position as an Elite Four member despite being the weakest, simply because he enjoys the facilities offered to him.

It is also implied that he has a crush on Lacey, as one of their interactions in the League Club Room involves him attempting and failing to supposedly ask her out. Additionally, one of his interactions with the player in the room involves him expressing his worries about Lacey liking someone else.

Biography

Crispin is the weakest of the academy's Elite Four, though he does not pay any particular attention to it. He also makes food for the other members.

When the player is introduced into the academy, Drayton calls him and the others to the cafeteria to discuss allowing them to join the BB League. Crispin easily agrees to the request, as he sees them as a student in his book despite them being a transfer student. Once Kieran also agrees in their favor, the player can find Crispin at the Savanna Biome, where they can start his trial.

Crispin's trial involves the player negotiating with several club members to create a "super-spicy" sandwich, which they would obtain from either battling, trading BP or other ingredients for them. Once they make the "super-spicy" sandwich, he considers the trial passed. Before he battles them, he remarks about the current state of the club under Kieran's rule. He loses the battle to them and hands them the TM Temper Flare before leaving.

Crispin, along with the other Elite Four members, later spectate the player's match against Kieran, who they beat again. As Kieran falls to his knees from the defeat, an absentminded Crispin congratulates the two for the exciting battle, only to be scolded by Lacey for not realizing the scope of the situation. Lacey then remarks that current club rules, should he relegate himself to an Elite Four member, it would push Crispin out, alarming him. Fortunately, this does not come to pass, as Kieran leaves the club while Lacey freezes the league's rankings.

Trivia

• His name is based on the concept of crispy food such as bacon; or when certain foods are baked to a 'crisp'.
• If the player picked Fuecoco as their starter, Crispin would be the only NPC in the game that ever uses the Fire Tera Type.
• During his Elite Trial, if the player does not add the top bread onto the sandwich, Crispin will wonder if it is common to ignore the top bread in Paldea. This is a likely reference to players omitting the top bread in their sandwiches, as it adds no overall effects to the sandwich, instead potentially weakening it.
  • Crispin's dialogue with the sandwich will also vary depending on the level of "spice" placed on the sandwich:
    • If it is not spicy enough, he will remark on it needing a varying amount of spice depending on how many vital ingredients were missing.
    • If it is passable, he will remark on it being spicy enough to pass the trial, though stating that it could use more spice.
    • If it is as spicy as possible, he will remark on how the spice felt more like "pain" but tolerates it.
