Name: Chimchar

Chimchar (Japanese: ヒコザル, Hepburn: Hikozaru) (CHIM-char^[1]) is the Fire-type First partner Pokémon of the Sinnoh region.

Biology[]

Physiology[]

Chimchar has a light-colored stomach with a little swirl at the top on its chest. The swirl on Chimchar's chest carries over to Monferno and Infernape. It has a tail with a burning flame, although the tail burns weaker when Chimchar is feeling under the weather.

Behavior[]

Chimchar are mostly vigorous and in high spirits. Although very mischievous and highly curious, Chimchar can show courage at troubled times.

Like regular monkeys, Chimchar are able to climb the rocky ledges and cliffs of tall rocky mountains, where they usually live in the wild by making nests. They originally roamed the Sinnoh region in the wild, though over time, they have become a rare sight.

Natural abilities[]

A Chimchar's flame is produced by burning gas in its stomach. The flames do not go out in the rain like the flames on a Charmander's tail, but Chimchar's flame goes out when they go to sleep.

Evolution[]

Chimchar evolves into Monferno once it reaches level 14 and into Infernape at level 36.

Chimchar is the first First partner Pokémon based on a monkey. It is later succeeded by Grookey.
In the English-language beta version of Diamond and Pearl, its name was Scorchimp.
