Effect[]

In battle[]

Chatter does damage and may confuse the target. If Chatter has been used to record audio already, then that sound will played during the attack. The louder the audio, the more damage the move causes and the higher the chance of it causing confusion, with the maximum chance of confusion being 31%. If Chatter didn't record audio, Chatot's battle cry will be played instead during the attack, which won't do as much damage and would only have a 1% chance to make the target confused. In a Double Battle, Chatter can target any Pokémon around the user. In a Triple Battle, Chatter can only target a Pokémon that's adjacent to the user. Chatter will have no effect on Pokémon with Soundproof.

Outside of battle[]

Chatter allows the player to talk into the DS microphone. The audio will be used as the sound for Chatter, instead of Chatot's battle cry. The louder the player talks into the microphone, the more damage it will have Chatter do and the higher the chance of confusing the target. The recorded audio can be changed any time.

Trivia[]

  • Chatter can record up to a minute, but recording longer will not do more damage.
    • The recording made by this move is slightly muffled. This is most likely to prevent the game from saying inappropriate words, which is also probably why Chatot is banned from Wi-Fi battles in Generation IV.
  • Chatter is one of three moves that cannot be copied by the move Sketch, along with the move Sketch itself, and Struggle.
