Chairman Rose is a character appearing in the "Sword & Shield Chapter" of Pokémon Adventures.
Appearance[]

Chairman Rose is a tall and handsome tan-skinned man with black hair, green eyes, and neatly trimmed facial hair. Despite his svelte appearance, he also has a round, portly belly (although it's barely visible when he wears his regular attire). Clothing-wise, Rose has one ear pierced and usually wears a sharp gray business suit, as befits his status and wealth. His suit consists of a gray vest with numerous black buttons, a gray overcoat with a single gold button, a white shirt, and a red tie. He also wears classy gray pants that match his suit, along with a gold and black belt, pointed red and black shoes, and a gold watch. On his right wrist, he wears a Dynamax Band.
However, when Rose is "undercover", he wears an outfit that clashes with his suave appearance (and altogether does a very poor job of disguising him). His undercover outfit consists of black sunglasses, a black hat with Rose Tower's symbol on it, a white long-sleeved sweater, and blue-green shorts with white polka dots all over them.
Personality[]
Unlike his assistant, Oleana, Chairman Rose is a very friendly person. Despite Oleana reminding him about his tight schedule, Rose is quite flexible to bypass his duties to observe other Trainers and watch their progress, even talking to them directly. He has a lot of charisma to persuade people, and goes as far as to make uncanny actions for the good of the Galar region. His dedication to the work makes him very strict to Trainers that cause harm, even if unintentional.
However, he also makes secret deals with other people. While Rose feels remorse if people get hurt, he reminds himself and others that all his actions are to continue his plans that benefit Galar region.
Etymology[]
Rose's name derives from the rose flower of the genus Rosa, in the Rosaceae family.
Biography[]
Rose was a participant of the Gym Challenge, though he ranked as a runner-up in the Galar League.[1][2] After that, with Professor Magnolia's help, Chairman Rose was able to use Wishing Stars to manufacture Dynamax Bands,[3] and soon after, he became the League Chairman, as well as the president of Macro Cosmos company.[1] Chairman Rose was a well-known figure, who inspired people of Galar region with his speeches. One of them was about having Galar region stronger by having the strong protect the helpless ones, which would benefit society. This speech later made the Champion, Leon, consider that having more stronger Trainers did not mean that the entire region would become stronger as a result.
Chairman Rose was also the one to have endorsed Sonia for her Gym Challenge. However, since he was working with Sonia's grandmother, Professor Magnolia, the public viewed that act as nepotism—giving her family member a favor.[4] In fact, Chairman Rose supported many of Galar's citizens, from building childcare centers and support less fortunate children to become promising Trainers, to even protecting them from slander. He also asked of other Gym Leaders to move their stadiums to Power Spots so they could have magnificent Dynamax battles, and respected Piers' choice when the latter refused to do so. In Chairman Rose's words, he liked the Galar region, whether it was shiny or not.[5] Professor Magnolia noted while he gave himself a lot of liberty to what he wanted, he still fulfilled his promises to protect Galar region.[6] Later, when Sonia lost the Gym Battle at Ballonlea, Chairman Rose approached her to comfort her, letting her know that her fans and boo-ers won't fight over her anymore.[4]
The chairman had Bede collect Wishing Stars among the Galar region,[7] while having the boy endorsed for the Galar Pokémon League. Rose believed Bede had the potential to become a great Trainer to protect Galar region.[5]
Sword & Shield arc[]
Chairman Rose got contacted by Leon to tell him about two new promising trainers. Chairman Rose asked for their profiles, and after he ended the call, Rose summoned his assistant, Oleana.[8]
Oleana was with the chairman, who was signing autographs.[9] Having seen Henry Sword's Twiggy evolve into a Thwackey, the chairman approached him and Marvin, clapping for his success. The chairman believed Henry Sword Sword had a promising future, and as Marvin asked who this man was, Rose pointed at a balloon, showing an advertisement featuring Nessa. The man admired the woman, since she didn't give up on her dream of being a model and a Gym Leader at the same time, surprising Marvin. As the chairman was talking with Henry Sword Sword Sword and Marvin about Nessa, he asked of Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword to visit him at the town's restaurant. Nessa appeared, reminding the chairman that he had a strict schedule, and adding additional events would disturb that. The chairman was annoyed, since he wanted some fun. Regardless, he bid farewell to the boys, as he walked away with Oleana.[10]
After Henry Sword won his Gym Battle, Sonia reunited with him, having received an invite for lunch with Chairman Rose. Henry Sword Sword confirmed that, while Oleana reminded that Chairman Rose was a busy man, who diverted some time to speak with them. The group separated from Marvin, and went to meet up at a restaurant with Rose, who complimented Henry Sword Sword Sword for his hard training that earned him the victory. He turned to Sonia, referring to her as "Nessa's dear friend", which made Sonia a bit nervous. Realizing that it was uncomfortable for Sonia to watch Gym matches, Rose complied not to speak any more of the subject, knowing that he is still indebted to Sonia's grandmother, Professor Magnolia.
After Chairman Rose showed a Dynamax Band, which used a Wishing Star to power it, Sonia deeply admired him, knowing that he became the chairman and the president of Macro Cosmos after his participation at the Galar League. The two were a bit concerned that there was much to learn about Dynamaxing, and was why Rose invited her and Henry Sword to Hammerlocke, where they could unveil such mysteries. Sonia was amazed, since that's where the vault was, while Rose asked of Oleana to make a schedule to visit the vault. The three sides parted ways, though soon enough, Sonia received a call from Nessa that she got defeated by Casey, to which Sonia dashed off to meet with Nessa to tell her more about it.[1] Oleana received a call from Bede, while riding the flying taxi with Chairman Rose. The latter wondered who Bede was, having forgotten about him.[11]
When Henry Sword, Sonia and Raihan compared evidences related to the Darkest Day, Henry Sword Sword remembered that Chairman Rose had Bede collect Wishing Stars, thinking he was trying to terrorize Galar region by re-enacting that event.[7] Hearing his protégé was causing trouble, Chairman Rose arrived to the scene, where Oleana's assistants bound Bede. Oleana reminded Rose about Bede's name, as Chairman Rose confirmed that he did have Bede collect Wishing Stars, even lending him his Copperajah. However, he didn't expect of him to get his priorities mixed up to start destroying Stow-on-Side's mural. He admitted that he had seen a potential in Bede to become a great Trainer, having him sent to the Pokémon School, but this trust had been betrayed. Rose made it clear that Bede had no part in taking the Gym Challenge or fulfilling his mission. Rose demanded of Bede's Wishing Stars to be handed over and go to Hammerlocke. Bede became upset, as Rose ordered him to give his Dynamax Band, for he was no longer endorsed for the Gym Challenge.[5]
Henry Sword, Casey, Professor Magnolia and Marvin discussed Rose revoking Bede's endorsement. They noted that Rose should've been held responsible for Bede's actions, believing that Rose could not have counted on Bede behaving like him with their similar backgrounds.[6] Rose was at Hammerlocke's power plant, where he noted Raihan's presence. Oleana's Froslass and Tsareena pushed him away from his Flygon. Rose greeted Raihan, noting he was late. Raihan saw that Rose has anticipated him, to which the latter stated that Raihan was the rebel around here, unlike Leon, who wouldn't want to enter the power plant unless it didn't harm his reputation. Regardless, Raihan wanted to know what happened in the power plant, but Rose simply stated that there were no casualties. Being pressed further, Rose asked Oleana if they should tell Raihan, to which she approved of.
Rose admitted that they could experience the lack of particles around Galar region that were used in the power plant to provide electricity to the Galar region. Moreover, Rose felt that things could get drastic that Galar region—and even the world—could be threatened within a millennium. Raihan was relieved that the doom would come outside his lifetime, but Rose reminded him that the Pokémon could witness that. Rose was aware that a thousand years was a long time, but he did not wish to sit idle, and instead wanted to work to avoid that tragedy. Raihan suspected that this was why Rose sent Bede to collect the Wishing Stars (which were placed in a bowl), to which Rose applauded him for such thinking. However, Rose did not succeed in the task, and instead asked of Raihan not to mention about this encounter to anyone. Raihan advised that he could share the truth with the people to avoid being suspicious. Rose agreed, and asked of Oleana to schedule a speech. Without further ado, Raihan left. Rose and Oleana walked away, but noted that Raihan did not trust them, as they had more sinister intentions.[12]
Opal thought of Chairman Rose and Copperajah, thinking that Rose was aware of Bede's crude behavior, yet he still disqualified him from the Gym Challenge because of this incident. She wanted to speak with him, but thinking he would be dishonest to her, instead went to speak with other Gym Leaders about this.[13] Raihan spoke with Piers about Chairman Rose and how he disqualified him from the Gym Challenge after the incident. The two noted that Rose was a gentle man who would help many people in need, and found it odd that he gave up on Bede like that. Piers felt there was a greater plot going on that Rose disqualified Bede, and told Raihan that while bullies can learn empathy towards other people, he felt influential people like Rose could forget such empathy.[14] Two men later had a talk with the representative of Macro Cosmos company, about "Rusted" items, Pokémon and some plans they were conducting.[15] The man turned out to be Chairman Rose, who spoke with the two men about their current situation. Sonia recorded their meeting, realizing that Chairman Rose had an ulterior motive: to bring back the Darkest Day.[4] However, Rose was aware that Sonia spied on them.[16] The conversations with Chairman Rose were about summoning Eternatus to collect Galar particles, so that Sordward and Shielbert, once Rose had enough particles, could defeat Eternatus and become heroes, like their ancestors.[2]
The group went to Rose Tower to confront Chairman Rose. While the Gym Leaders were fighting Oleana, the rest—Casey, Henry Sword, Bede, Hop and Marnie—went to the top, but did not find Rose. A recording of Chairman Rose was shown, confirming that he was absent. However, he made it clear that he wanted to start the Darkest Day, but at the Champion Cup, but was forced to execute this plan at an earlier date. He made it clear this was to protect the Galar region in a thousand years. He asked of the group to continue their efforts to start a new heroic legend, and then ended the broadcast.[17] The group confronted Chairman Rose at the powerplant in Hammerlocke, where Rose questioned himself when was the last time they didn't have to worry how many Galar particles they had. It made him pleased to say that his plan was a success.[18]
Henry Sword questioned Rose as whether summoning Eternatus was a plot to destroy Galar region. Chairman Rose turned around, crying, shaken that someone accussed him of harming Galar region. The group was taken aback, but still pointed out that Dynamaxed Pokémon were causing trouble, and Sonia suffered an attack as well. Rose admitted his fault, though he explained he got careless by having Sonia overhear his conversation. On Dynamaxed Pokémon, he showed that his Macro Cosmos teams were battling them—much like the team that tried to stop Dracovish that Henry Sword Sword and his team were involved in. Rose walked away, to which Leon attempted to grab him. However, Leon's hand passed through Rose, as the latter was a hologram: he didn't want them to interrupt his plans involving Sordward and Shielbert. Before Rose left, Sonia asked whether Sordward and Shielbert were of noble origin. Rose confirmed they were, but also mentioned that their family kept sources that confirmed their bloodline as a secret.
As Sordward and Shielbert fought Eternatus, Chairman Rose called Oleana for a report. The latter stated that they still haven't accumulated enough Galar particles, and it'd take more time to do so. She also mentioned how the Darkest Day was depicted differently in the tapestries. Rose ended the call and watched the battle. However, Eternatus attacked Shielbert and Sordward, they fell off the tower. To their luck, they were saved by Chairman Rose's Ferrothorn, who held them to prevent their fall. Rose was not pleased, scolding both brothers for falsifying much of the history involving the legend. The brothers suspected Rose plotted their downfall, but the latter merely wished of them to show their heroism they spoke so much about—and lied. Rose called Oleana to switch to plan B, then confronted Eternatus by summoning his Gigantamax Copperajah.[16]
Chairman Rose had Copperajah fight valiantly, but noticed that Eternatus barely suffered a strike. He noted that he never was able to become the Champion to beat it, and was struck by Eternatus' Flamethrower. With the fires spreading, the Gym Leaders arrived and stopped the fire, letting Raihan and Leon to come in and rescue Rose. As Eternatus swung its tail, Bede's Hattrem evolved into a Hatterene and fired Dazzling Gleam to distract Eternatus, which made Leon and Raihan drag Rose to safety. The chairman was grateful for their rescue, as well as Bede, who realized that the chairman didn't forget his name. Rose admitted that he "slipped up", whereas Oleana asked of Rose to drop the charade, for he couldn't forget Bede's name if he sent him to collect the Wishing Stars. Bede became upset, wanting answers for this. With the group fighting Eternatus, Oleana received a call that there was an increase of Galar particles: Rose noted that Eternatus was getting into its "serious mode".[2] Bede, Rose and Oleana witnessed Eternatus' form change.[19]
Just as Zacian and Zamazenta collided with Eternatus, a bright light flashed. By the time the rest of the Gym Leaders came to the top, they found everyone, including Chairman Rose, unconscious. The group was taken to the hospital in Hammerlocke, where they were recovering. However, Rose was taken by the police to the police hospital, where he would be kept under close eye. Moreover, he resigned his position as the chairman of Macro Cosmos.[20] When Marnie, Hop and Bede saw Peony and his daughter, Peonia, Bede imagined their bond to something he could've had with Chairman Rose - to be happy with one another.[21]
