Cave of Origin is a location introduced in Generation III.
Description[]
Cave of Origin is a volcanic cave in Sootopolis City. It is where the player can encounter Groudon (on B4F in Pokémon Ruby Version and B5F in Pokémon Omega Ruby) or Kyogre (on B4F in Pokémon Sapphire Version and B5F in Pokémon Alpha Sapphire) after awakening the Legendary Pokémon at Seafloor Cavern. The map description for the Cave of Origin says that it is where the Groudon or Kyogre can awaken its true powers. The Cave of Origin is usually off-limits under normal circumstances, but the player is given permission to enter after the awakening of Groudon or Kyogre after the Legendary Pokémon engulfs the Hoenn region in extreme sunlight or rainfall, respectively.
The Cave of Origin is said to hold the origin of Rayquaza. In Pokémon Emerald Version only, Wallace can be found at the Cave of Origin for this reason, but after the player suggests to him that Rayquaza is at the Sky Pillar instead, Wallace leaves. The Cave of Origin cannot be accessed again afterward.
The Cave of Origin has six floors in Pokémon Ruby Version and Pokémon Sapphire Version; of them, B1F-B3F are dark but can be illuminated using Flash. The location was reduced to only three floors in Pokémon Emerald Version, with floors B1F-B3F being removed and B1F taking the place of B4F.
On B4F, the sides of the cave are decorated with ruby gemstones in Pokémon Ruby Version and a pool of lava. In Pokémon Sapphire Version, the floor is decorated with sapphire gemstones and has a pool of water instead. In Pokémon Emerald Version, the floor, now B1F, has sapphire gemstones decorating the left side and ruby gemstones on the right. Additionally, the center area has no liquid, but rather an assortment of nine rocks, three against the north wall, three against the south wall, and three lined in the center horizontally.
