The core series of Pokémon games is a series of role-playing video games released for Nintendo systems and the primary series of Pokémon games. The games follow a template of the player's journey through a specific region to catch and train Pokémon, battle fellow Trainers, fight evil teams, and earn recognition throughout the region (usually by collecting Badges from Gym Leaders) and continuing their journey to become the Champion of the region. The series began with the first installment, Pokémon Red and Green, released for the Game Boy in Japan on February 27, 1996.
There are currently 22 core series games released in Japanese, 21 in European languages (including English), 15 in Korean, and 7 in Chinese (both simplified and traditional).
