The Capture Styler in Pokémon Ranger
A Capture Styler is a device in the Pokémon Ranger series.
Description[]
A Capture Styler is a device used solely by Pokémon Rangers to recruit Pokémon temporarily, unlike how Pokémon Trainers use Poké Ball to take ownership of Pokémon. A Capture Styler looks like a cell phone or a walkie-talkie, and it is red with a Ranger Union symbol in the center, a yellow handle, and an antenna. The Capture Styler also has a flap that can be opened, revealing a small screen. Pokémon Rangers store the Capture Styler in a pocket on their uniform.
Functions[]
When the Pokémon Ranger turns on the device, it deploys its antenna automatically, then instructions can be given to the Pokémon, such as to use Poké Assists or Field Moves.
A Capture Styler launches a Capture Disc, which transmits the Ranger's feelings of friendship to Pokémon by forming a Capture Line and looping it around that Pokémon. When a Ranger fully conveys their friendship and intentions, they join them as a temporary ally.
The Capture Styler has some other abilities. It has a Ranger Browser, the Ranger's equivalent to a Pokédex. It allows users to communicate from afar. The Capture Styler also has the Ranger Glossary, which contains terms and important information.
Types[]
There are five types of Capture Stylers other than the standard type.
The standard Capture Styler is actually the first upgrade within the series of Capture Stylers, coming after the School Styler, which is used by Student Rangers at the Ranger School and is limited with what it can do, particularly its inability to utilize Poké Assists.
The Fine Styler is the upgrade to the Capture Styler, and therefore the second upgrade in the series of Capture Stylers which is worn by Top Rangers only. There is also the Vatonage Styler, created exclusively for Operation Brighton.
The Super Styler is prototype version of a Capture Styler created by Professor Hastings. It was stolen by Go-Rock Squad to create the Power Styler, a device to enslave and control Pokémon against their own will.
There is an untitled Capture Styler model used by Ben and Summer in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs. It is constructed like a watch and has an interactive Voice Nav. system as well as the Power Charge function. Due to Nema's unofficial adjustments, this model also contains the Sign Mode function that can help summon Pokémon. This model is also further modified by Nema throughout the game.
Upgrades[]
In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia and Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, completing Quests can provide upgrades to the styler that can reduce damage, extend line length, etc. Upgrades in Shadow's of Almia are directly installed after completing a Quest, while in Guardian Signs, upgrades are made via Ranger Points which can be acquired by completing missions and Quests. Capturing a Pokémon with an "S" rank capture for the first time also provides 1 Ranger Point.

Trivia[]
- While the Styler is resistant to conventional damage, it is not completely impervious to shock and heat.
- The original name for the Styler was the Capture Loopey-Looper, though Hastings admits he realized how foolish the name was.
