The Capture Line is a mechanic in the Pokémon Ranger series.
Description[]
A Capture Line is produced by the Capture Disc of a Capture Styler. It captures a wild Pokémon after completing a certain number of loops, the number which depends on how powerful the Pokémon is, so Legendary Pokémon require the most loops. If the Capture Line is hit by a move, the Capture Styler loses Styler Energy, and if none is left, the player returns to the latest Save Machine to have their Capture Styler recharged.
Appearances[]
Pokémon Ranger[]
In Pokémon Ranger, if the Capture Line has been attacked or touched, the player has to reattempt at circling the target Pokémon. As the Capture Styler levels up, the Capture Line can be used for longer, and the Capture Cove gains more Styler Energy.
Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia[]
In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, the Capture Line causes the Pokémon to lose Styler Energy each time a loop surrounds it. The player can briefly lift the stylus while catching the Pokémon, but if they wait too long, the Pokémon will recover. As the player's Ranger Rank increases, the Capture Line does too, costing the Pokémon more Styler Energy. The player can later power up the Capture Line by holding the stylus in the same spot on the Touch Screen for a few seconds, increasing its strength.
The color of a Capture Line can be affected through the use of a Poké Assist, depending on its type:
- Grass: green
- Water: blue
- Fighting: white and orange
- Poison: purple
- Bug: green and white
- Ground: brown
- Rock: light brown
- : sky blue
- Dark: black
- Ghost: black with purple border
- Ice: very light blue
Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs[]
Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs adds the ability to create shared Capture Lines with others wirelessly. There are two ways to create them, depending on how many players participate in the capture attempt:
- Unison Capture requires only two players. The first player starts by drawing a Capture Line, then the second player must begin at the starting point of the Capture Line, and lastly both players must draw loops in opposite directions.
- Team Capture requires 3 or 4 players. Each player starts at the touchscreen and waits a few seconds without moving or removing the stylus to recharge their power (which does not provide a strength bonus). They then draw a line to the next player's starting point, then to the next, and so on, creating a triangle for three players or a square for four players.
The Capture Line does not break during either a Unison Capture or Team Capture if hit by either a Pokémon or a move, but only if a Capture Disc is hit.
The Capture Line is also used to produce a Ranger Sign and summon a wild Pokémon for assistance.
