Capsule Monsters (カプセルモンスター ) is Satoshi Tajiri's early concept of what is now the Pokémon franchise. It was proposed to Nintendo in 1990.
Originally, Pokémon were not caught through battle like they are now. Instead, the you, the player, had to gain Charisma to convince the wild creatures to join you.
Many gen I Pokémon were originated from the early concept work, such as Nidorino, Gengar, Ivysaur, and Clefairy.

Buhii (ブヒー) | All that is known about Buhii is that it was a beta, cat-like Pokémon who never made it into the final cut. It's number is the same as Jynx's (#124), which is also the index number for Caterpie. |

Godzillante (ゴジランテ) | Its name and fire-breathing ability imply it's based off of Godzilla and Biollante, a Godzilla-related kaiju. In the original artwork, Godzillante is shown fighting Gorillaimo. |

Gorillamo (ゴリライモ) | Gorillamo (theoretically) references the character Ninten from the game Mother. It also resembles the Super Mario Bros. character, Donkey Kong. In the original artwork, Gorillaimo is shown fighting Godzillante. |

Trivia[]
- Capsule Monsters is a presumably homage to "Capsule Monsters" from the 1967 Ultra Series Ultraseven. Satoshi Tajiri acknowledged that classic tokusatsu productions most notably Godzilla, Gamera, Ultraman, and Kamen Rider had extensive influences on the Pokémon where some Pokémon were even directly designed and named after tokusatsu characters.[1][2][3]
- Capsule Monsters was the name of a game in the early Yu-Gi-Oh! manga.
