Bug Catcher is a recurring type of Pokémon Trainer in the core series. They first appear in the Generation I games.
Bug Catchers specialize in the use of Bug-type Pokémon. Many of them are young boys who wear a white shirt, blue shorts, and a straw hat. They usually carry a butterfly net and a green bag with them. Bug Catchers are usually among the first type of trainers that the player encounters, often having particularly weak Pokémon and handing out little Pokémon Dollars when defeated. In the Generation I games, a few Bug Catchers are first encountered in Viridian Forest. Bug Catchers are uncommon in the Generation IV games, in which there are only four, the first of whom is encountered on Route 204 and the later three appearing in Eterna Forest. Bug Catchers do not appear in Unova or later regions.
Bug Catchers are assumed to be connected to the Bug Maniacs, which appear to be a more advanced group of trainers in terms of age and Pokémon strength.
