Bombirdier (Japanese: オトシドリ, Hepburn: Otoshidori) (BAHM-burr-deer[1]) is a /Dark-type Pokémon introduced in Generation IX.
Biology[]
Physiology[]
Bombirdier is a bird Pokémon which looks similar to a stork. It has fanned-out feathers on the back of its head, a long and narrow pink beak with a bump on its end, and dark slanted eyes. It has a long neck and a slim build, with long legs and talons of the same color as the beak. It has three toes per foot which face forward, and one on the back of each foot. The claws are black, alongside the feathers on the lower half of the body, the tips of it's wings, and the inside of the square-ended tail, whereas the rest of the feathers are white.
A very long, white apron made of its own feathers drapes over the front of its body and down past its legs.
The Open Sky Titan, one of the Paldea region's Titan Pokémon, is a giant Bombirdier.
Behavior[]
Bombirdier stores food in the apron it forms from its shed feathers to bring back to its nest. When not foraging for food, they are very fond of placing various items in them, then flying somewhere and dropping them from above. They particularly enjoy dropping items that make loud noises for fun.
Natural Abilities[]
Bombirdier is the only known Pokémon that can have Rocky Payload as an Ability.
Evolution[]
Bombirdier does not evolve.

Trivia[]
Origin[]
Bombirdier is based on a white stork. In European folklore, it was said that white storks would deliver babies by dropping them down the chimney for their new parents. It could also be possible that the Pokémon is inspired by some vultures, which drop items from high above to break them open. Due to the styling of the dark markings on the face, it resembles the bearded vulture, while the feathers on the back of the head also calls to mind Egyptian vultures, which would also utilize the same technique of dropping objects from the sky. Alternately, its Dark typing is suggestive of maladjusted sociopathy, and how in different regions of Europe, storks are viewed not as bringers of good tidings but bad omens and misfortune.
Etymology[]
Bombirdier is a portmanteau of bombardier, a crew member on a bomber plane, and bird. Bombirdier's name is also a play on a type of beetle called a bombardier.
