Blissey (Japanese: ハピナス, Hepburn: Hapinasu) (BLISS-sey) is a Normal-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II.

Biology

Physiology

Blissey has curly hair on both sides of its head. Its arms are pink with white wings at the end. It has a pouch for its egg, like all of the members of its family. Its lower torso is also white with four flaps of fur, giving it an appearance of wearing a dress.

Behavior

Blissey are some of the most compassionate Pokémon in the world. Their fur twitches when they sense beings that are sad or ill, and they immediately try to make them feel better. They can sense unhappiness from over a mile away. Blissey will often share their eggs with complete strangers who happen to be down on their luck. A single bite of their eggs, which have enough vitamins and minerals to feed a person for a whole day, can immediately lift spirits and ease illnesses. Consuming whole eggs will compel people or Pokémon to act just as kindly as Blissey to others until the nutrients from the eggs pass through their systems. If Blissey is in a loving environment it is capable of producing a single egg a day. Unsurprisingly, ethically sourced eggs are a huge delicacy due to their rarity and are exorbitantly expensive.

Because of their compassionate natures, Blissey are often found working in Pokémon Centers alongside their pre-evolutions Chansey; in fact, they are more commonly found in Centers than in the wild, where they are exceedingly rare (even more so than the already-elusive Chansey). Blissey will work tirelessly to heal the sick and weary, not being able to rest until their patients are at the very least in stable conditions.

Evolution

Blissey evolves from Chansey when leveled up with high friendship. It is the final evolved form of Happiny.

Etymology

Blissey comes from bliss and Chansey.

Its Japanese name, Happinas, comes from happiness and nurse. It could also come from nasu (eggplant), possibly being a pun to the egg theme of the Happiny line.
