Plot[]
The episode opens with the morning guild cheers. As the player's team get ready to start their morning duties, Bidoof watches them from a distance, and reminisces about his own early guild training before the Player and their Partner joined the guild. Bidoof's dream was to become the greatest explorer ever and to fulfil that dream, he left his home and family to join Wigglytuff's Guild. However, he struggled in his training, he messed up his chores, and one time even ate Wigglytuff's supply of Perfect Apples. Bidoof's struggles continued and he began to doubt if he could ever fulfil his dream, but then something happened to change that.
One day, Bidoof is assigned by Chatot to check the stock of Oran Berries in Kecleon Market. Bidoof protests this assignment, wishing to do a job assignment instead, but Chatot tells him he isn't ready and that he just has to be patient to become an explorer. Bidoof goes to Kecleon Market and after learning the stock of Oran Berries, the Kecleon brothers notice he is depressed. Bidoof reveals his frustrations at his constant mistakes at the guild and wonders how he can become an explorer quickly. The purple Kecleon brother offers Bidoof a TM for Hidden Power that would allow him to become more useful in expeditions. However, the price of the TM is 6,500 Poke and Bidoof considers using 7,000 Poke he got from his family as a farewell gift, but decides he can't spend it recklessly and declines Kecleon's offer. As he returns to the guild, Bidoof spots a Pokémon that gives him something before running away. A Bagon and Gligar appear and ask Bidoof if they saw the Pokémon come through and Bidoof tells them which direction he went. The two go after the Pokémon and a frightened Bidoof returns to the guild.
That night, Bidoof tries to get some sleep, but Loudred's loud snoring keeps him awake. Bidoof decides to examine the object the Pokémon from earlier gave him and discovers it's a map to someone where called Star Cave. Bidoof this aside and resumes trying to sleep, despite Loudred's continued snoring. The next morning, Bidoof asks Chatot about Star Cave and Chatot reveals it is a legendary place whose location is unknown. Inside the cave lies the rare Pokémon Jirachi and those who awaken Jirachi are granted a wish. Bidoof realizes he can use the map to find Jirachi to grant his wish and become the greatest explorer, but keeps this secret from Chatot. Chatot sense Bidoof is hiding something, but the conversation is interrupted when Loudred announces that Bidoof has a visitor. Bidoof goes to the guild entrance and finds the Pokémon who gave him the map waiting for him.
The Pokémon introduces himself as Snover and apologizes for the trouble he caused yesterday. Snover reveals that Bagon and Gligar interrogated him for the map, only he didn't have it because he gave it to Bidoof. Bidoof asks Snover if the map really leads to Star Cave and Snover confirms it and explains that Gligar and Bagon wanted the map to find Jirachi and get a wish. Snover asks Bidoof to come with him to Star Cave, because he isn't strong enough to make it through on his own. Bidoof agrees to go so they both can have their wishes granted.
Bidoof lies that he has a stomachache in order to get out of his guild chores and the two go to Star Cave. When the two reach the end of Star Cave, it's nothing but a dead end. Suddenly, Bagon and Gligar arrive and Bidoof is shocked they reached Star Cave without a map. Snover reveals that Jirachi was never at Star Cave and the three of them tricked Bidoof. The three introduce themselves as Team Rouge, a group of bandits, and Snover is their leader. Snover reveals that when Team Rouge first found the map to Star Cave, all the found was the dead. Still angry about being robbed of the chance to make a wish, the three returned to Treasure Town and noticed Bidoof's 7,000 Poke when he was considering buying the Hidden Power TM, they concocted a scheme to trick Bidoof into going to Star Cave so they could rob him without interference.
After battling Team Rouge, Bidoof is overpowered. Before Team Rouge can steal Bidoof's money the entire guild appears and help Bidoof battle Team Rouge. Team Rouge is completely outmatched by the guild members and flee in defeat. Bidoof thanks the guild for saving him and asks them how they got to Star Cave. Chatot reveals that he saw through Bidoof's suspicious behavior and he and Wigglytuff decided to follow him with the rest of the guild joining them on their own initiative. Wiggylytuff expresses that even though the guild is tough on Bidoof, they all care for him deeply. Bidoof apologizes for messing up again, but Wigglytuff assures him that learning from his mistakes will lead him to become a great explorer. The guild then discusses if Jirachi really is in Star Cave and Wigglytuff breaks down the wall of the dead end, revealing a hidden passage that leads deeper into the cave. While the guild gets excited at the though of meeting Jirachi and having their wishes granted, Wigglytuff declares it was Bidoof's exploration first and he should complete it. The guild agrees with Wigglytuff's decision and Bidoof goes to finish his exploration. After Bidoof leaves, the guild commends Wigglytuff for his generosity in giving up a wish. Loudred comments that Wigglytuff could have wished for all the Perfect Apple's he could eat and Wigglytuff, having not thought of that when he sent Bidoof to keep exploring, tries to go after him and the guild has to stop him with excessive struggling.
When Bidoof reaches the deepest part of Star Cave, Jirachi appears before him. However, Jirachi is barely awake and he unintentionally attacks Bidoof in his sleep. After Bidoof defeats Jirachi, Jirachi awakens fully and offers Bidoof a wish for awakening him. Jirach asks Bidoof what he will wish for and Bidoof admits he wants to be the best explorer ever, before Jirachi can grants that wish, Bidoof stops him. Bidoof reveals he's giving up on having Jirachi's wish making him the greatest explorer, because his experience in Star Cave has taught him that becoming a great explorer can't be truly achieved through a wish, it has to be earned through hard work and true effort. Instead, Bidoof asks Jirachi to grant him a new wish, a wish for a friend he could share what he learns with and in turn, he would get better as he went forward. Jirachi promises Bidoff that his wish will come true and that sooner or later, new faces will appear at the guild.
Bidoof's exploration of Star Cave comes to an end and after some time, the Player and Partner join the guild, fulfilling Bidoof's wish. Bidoof thanks Jirachi and promises to work hard with the Player and Partner at the guild.
