Oran Berry

Berries are small fruits that grow on berry trees. There is a large variety of berries including the basic Oran Berry and were introduced in Generation II as simple berries as the realistic ones such as the strawberry and the raspberry are in the Generation I game Hey You, Pikachu!. It takes 48 hours for a berry tree to grow to full size and bear berries. They can be held by Pokémon to reduce the damage of an Attack or Restore health. They also can be used to heal a Pokémons status problem in battle too. They are used to increase a Pokémon's charm through PokéBlocks and Poffins, which is used to gain attraction by voters in Pokémon Contests.

Most trees in Gold, Silver, and Crystal replaced some Apricorn Trees with Berries like PZNCureBerry.

Berries are not sold in Poké Marts.

This formula shows how many berries one tree will bear:

$ \frac{ad-a-bd+5b+c}{4} $

a= max number of berries
b= min number of berries
c= number of berries chosen at random between a and b
d= number of growth stages during watering

Another formula of the growth, known as the "Berry Theorem":

$ \delta_{Fr} = [\frac{(x - y) \times (w - 1) + (\kappa)}{4}] + y $[1]

x - Max number of berries
y - Min number of berries
w - # of growth stages during watering (between 1 to 4)
κ - The random constant

Random Constant:

$ \kappa = 0 $ to $ \kappa = (x + y) $

Logical truth of the Random Constant in connection to the Berry Theorem:

  • If the plant is fully watered, then if 'rand' equals max - min, the numerator is equal to

$ \kappa = (x + y) \times w $

  • and the denominator evenly divides water, so that the formula evaluates to

$ \kappa_{evenly} = (x - y + y) $

  • In short, there is a 1 in

$ \kappa_{chance} = (x - y) + 1 $

chance that a Berry plant will provide its maximum yield if it is fully watered.
