Berries are a type of item introduced in Generation II.
Description[]
They are small fruits that grow on Berry trees. Berries are among the more commonly held items by Pokémon. They are also ingredients for foods like Pokéblocks and Poffins. Berries carry a variety of medicinal and healing effects for Pokémon that consume them. Berries appear in several varieties and shapes, with each type having a unique effect each with their own unique effect which can vary from healing 10 HP as an Oran Berry, to healing all status conditions as a Lum Berry, restoring a Pokémon's PP like the Leppa Berry or halving the damage of normally super effective moves once, like the Passho Berry for Water type or Haban Berry for Dragon type.
Berries are generally less potent than Potions, however they can be used by Pokémon mid-battle at their own discretion at the start or end of a turn rather than, needing to use a turn to apply medicine. This is because Pokémon encounter berries in their natural environment and know how to use them, while Potions are man-made, something unusual that Pokémon struggle with using without help from a Pokémon Trainer. Berries can be used only once.
All of the Berries introduced in Generation II replaced with a different set of Berries in Generation III, and the number of Berries continued to expand in Generation IV and later Generation VI.
