Axew (Japanese: キバゴ, HepburnKibago) (AKS-yoo[1]) is a Dragon-type Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

Biology[]

Physiology[]

Axew concept art

Concept artwork of Axew

Axew is a small reptilian dinosaur-like Pokémon. It is mainly deep greenish in color, with a light green collar around its neck. Axew has flat pale green tusks protruding from either side of its mouth. It has large scarlet red eyes and a dark-green pointed horn atop its head. It is a bipedal Pokémon with stubby legs, small feet and claws, and a short pointed tail.

Natural Abilities[]

If one of Axew's tucks breaks off it quickly regrows even stronger and sharper than before.

Behavior[]

Axew use their tusks to crush berries to eat. They leave gashes in trees with their tusks to mark their territory. If one of Axew's tusks breaks, a new one will grow back quickly.

Evolution[]

Axew evolves into Fraxure at level 38, and evolves into Haxorus at level 48.

Anime[]

Iris Axew

Iris' Axew

Iris' Axew has been seen in many episodes in the Best Wishes! series.

Erina has an Axew in Lost at the Stamp Rally!.

Trivia[]

  • This Pokémon was first seen in beta art leaked onto the Internet on June 27, 2010, and then later confirmed by a silhouette for the female anime character (Iris) on July 1, 2010.
    • Later, it was seen in a leaked image of Bandai toys along with Pansage on July 5, 2010. The official site then accidentally leaked an image of it while promoting the Daisuki Club pre-order bonuses for Black & White on July 8, 2010, and was later revealed within the August CoroCoro issue on July 11, 2010.
  • Axew has the lowest base Special Attack stat of all Dragon-type Pokémon.
  • Axew's design was reversed engineered from Haxorus due to the latter being designed very early on in Pokémon Black and White's development.

Origin[]

Axew mainly possesses traits of dinosaurs and dragons, most heavily resembling the Dicynodonts, tusked, mammal-like reptiles who lived in ancient times. Axew is considered to be based on the small Diictodon. Axew's head crest resembles those used by hadrosaurids, and possibly a basilisk.

Etymology[]

Axew comes from axe and hew (to chop or cut something with an axe, pick, or other tool).
