- For an overview of the character Pokémon, see Ash's Pikachu.
This Pikachu is an Electric-type Pokémon owned by Ash Ketchum. He is Ash's first Pokémon. Also, Pikachu always stays outside his Poké Ball, and can be seen riding on either Ash's head or shoulder.
Personality[]
Despite his small size, Pikachu is one of Ash's most dependable and strongest partners. Whenever Ash isn't around, Pikachu takes a leadership position for the team. He is curious, smart, friendly, and shares Ash's fondness for battling. Pikachu is a very determined Pokémon and unwilling to give up in tough situations. He is responsible and often looks after younger Pokémon, particularly Misty's Togepi, who he is often forced to shepherd out of danger. Although stubborn at times, he obeys Ash's commands in battle and rarely leaves his side. Pikachu is also a constant target for Team Rocket. They try to capture him, but on the few occasions that they do, their plans are always thwarted by Ash and his friends. Pikachu will often use his Electric-type attacks to escape danger or traps, with Thunderbolt being one of his most common moves. He is very swift in battles as well. He can also imitate some Pokémon by making their face shapes.
Pikachu doesn't like being in his Poké Ball one bit, hates someone pulling on his tail (and being followed very closely).[1] He likes riding on Ash's head or shoulder.
Biography[]
As Pichu[]
Pichu was alone during his time in the forest until he met a Kangaskhan and her child, who were with their horde. Pichu befriended Kangaskhan and joined its horde. Pichu was able to form a close bond with the Kangaskhan and her child who enjoy having him in their family.
One night, Pichu left the horde, while he remembers his times with them. After thinking about his friendship with Kangaskhan, Pichu began to evolve into Pikachu.[2]
As Pikachu[]
Pikachu came with Ash to the opening ceremony of Cerise Laboratory. While there, they learn that the Legendary Pokémon Lugia was spotted at Vermilion City and attempt to battle it. After arriving at the scene getting on top of Lugia, Pikachu and Ash met up with a local boy named Goh. Pikachu was riding on Lugia along with his Trainer Ash and Goh, where they enjoying the ride. Pikachu instantly found a new close friend in Goh. After returning to the Cerise Laboratory, Pikachu joins Ash along with their new friend Goh as they became assistants of the Cerise Laboratory to discover more secrets about Pokémon.[3]
Pikachu ended up getting new teammates in a Dragonite, who he met as a wild Dragonair,[4] a Gengar,[5] a Riolu, who later evolves into a Lucario,[6] a Galarian Farfetch'd, who later evolves into a Sirfetch'd,[7] and a Dracovish.[8] Pikachu became best friends with Goh's First partner Pokémon, Scorbunny, who later evolves into a Raboot and again into Cinderace[9] and Chloe's pet Pokémon Yamper.[3] Also, Pikachu gets three close friends in Goh's Sobble, who later evolves into a Drizzile, and again into a Inteleon[10] and Grookey[11] and Chloe's Eevee,[12] which are Goh's and Chloe's other partners.
During Ash and Goh's second visit to Galar, Pikachu sensed a strange presence of a mysterious Pokémon flying through the clouds. Pikachu later watched the battle between Lance's Gyarados and Leon's Charizard and witnessed the powers of Dynamax and Gigantamax as well as Max moves and G-Max moves. When the match ended, the Wyndon Stadium was attacked by a wild Drednaw after Team Rocket accidentally provoked it and caused it to change into its Gigantamax form.[13] Ash and Pikachu attempted to battle the giant Pokémon, but it was too much for them to handle due to its increased size and overwhelming power.
However, during their battle, something unexpected happened. The Dynamax energy from underground engulfed Pikachu and caused it to transform into its Gigantamax form. Pikachu had initial trouble moving around with his newly giant form, but somehow got used it during the fight with Drednaw. Pikachu then defeated Drednaw, via Leon's advice, with a powerful G-Max move, G-Max Volt Crash. After a victorious win, Pikachu reverted to his normal size. Pikachu was later used to battle Leon's Charizard and, thanks to the Dynamax Band Ash received from Leon, activated his Gigantmax form again. However, Charizard proved to be far more powerful and Pikachu was defeated.[14]
Pikachu was used in Ash's first match in the World Coronation Series where he went up against Visquez's Raichu. Pikachu struggled to battle against his evolved form, which forced Ash to switch Pikachu with Gengar. Gengar was able to defeat Raichu but lost to Visequez's second Pokémon: Electrode. With Gengar defeated, Ash sent out Pikachu again to battle Electrode. Pikachu was able to defeat Electrode by rolling it in reverse and striking it down with his Iron Tail and surviving its Aftermath by using Electroweb as a shield. After the battle, Pikachu and Ash celebrated their victory over their first match as they advanced to a new rank.[15]
When Ash has been training Riolu more than him, Pikachu gets jealous of the attention his Trainer gives to the Emanation Pokémon and feels nucleated. However, during a visit from Delia, Pikachu gets some encouragement from her as she assured him that he always has a special place for Ash because he was the first Pokémon he ever gotten. Despite her words of reassurances, Pikachu was still upset at Ash and feeling down about being nucleated as he decided to sleep with Delia for the night. That next day, Pikachu got up in time to see Delia head back to Pallet Town. However, finally had enough of being nucleated and thinks Ash doesn't care about him anymore, Pikachu decided to follow Delia to Pallet Town with Mimey not too far behind him as the Barrier Pokémon attempted to stop him. After Mimey failed to change his mind, Pikachu was join by his friend as they journey to Pallet Town in order to catch up with Delia. However, when Mimey got attack by a group of Spearow, Pikachu defended it by using Thunderbolt. Seeing that was how he bonded with Ash on the day they met, Pikachu not only gets what Delia meant before but also realized his rash actions for thinking his best friend didn't care about him and leaving him. After arriving in Pallet Town, Pikachu decided to go back to Ash and make things right between them. However, Pikachu sees that Ash, who realized what he had been going through lately through Chloe, was already in Pallet Town as they both apologizes for their actions then was scolded by Delia for running away and worrying everyone. That night, Pikachu with his friends had dinner and went to bed in Ash's room.[16]
After Goh decided to catch a Pikachu to see his goal of acquiring all Pokémon for his Pokédex, Pikachu accompanied Ash and Goh where they met some wild Pikachu, with Goh catching one of his own. Goh's newly caught Pikachu proceeded to show them to a valley where many other wild Pikachu were looking for Thunder Stones to evolve into Raichu. Goh's Pikachu proceeded to excavate a Thunder Stone and offered it to him, who was immediately alarmed and fled from her as she tried to give the stone to him. Soon after, Team Rocket appeared to capture the Pikachu herd, with Pikachu himself being caught. However, he and the others were freed by Goh's Pikachu, who had him toss her the Thunder Stone she had given him to evolve into Raichu and with the other Raichu, used Thunderbolt on the holding machine to break all of them out. Pikachu then rallied the other wild Pikachu to perform a stacked Thunderbolt on Team Rocket, blasting them off.[17]
When Ash and Goh went back to Galar to find a Falinks, the Pokémon attacked them after Goh's Grookey angered them. Pikachu scattered the group with Thunderbolt, upon which Ash collected the troopers while Goh went for the brass. While Goh was busy rebuilding the brass' confidence in its leading capabilities, the troopers decided to follow Pikachu, much to his discomfort. When Goh returned with a newly motivated brass, Goh's Pokémon tried to follow him, much to his shock, having been traumatized by the troopers. Fortunately, Ash told him that he wouldn't have to do it again and the Pokémon disbanded.[1]
During Ash's match against Volkner, Pikachu told Ash that he wanted to battle after Gengar had fainted against Volkner's Rotom. While he was able to do some damage, Volkner quickly swapped Rotom for his Electivire, who absorbed his attacks with Motor Drive. After getting a brief thrashing from Electivire, Ash recalled Pikachu for Lucario against Volkner's Luxray. The two Pokémon quickly knocked each other out, so Ash had to send Pikachu against Electivire again. Despite the disadvantage, Pikachu was able to snatch a win for Ash with 10,000,000 Volt Thunderbolt, as the massive amount of electricity proved too much for Electivire to handle.[18]
Pikachu later partook in an impromptu match by Opal after she deemed Ash's cake the best, wanting to see what battles he had. She sent out another Alcremie which endured his attacks before going on her own offensive. Opal then proceeded to Gigantamax her afterwards, using G-Max Finale on him. Pikachu was able to endure the attack, but as a side result of the cream, he grew in size similar to her, causing everyone to believe that he too had Gigantamaxed. However, Ash had never done so before Leon realized that he had simply gotten fat from the cream, causing Opal to call off the match.[19]
In Ash's third match against Bea, Pikachu was sent out to fight her Grapploct. While he had an initial advantage, Grapploct was able to fight back, causing Ash to call him back for Lucario. After Sirfetch'd fainted fighting Hawlucha, Pikachu was sent out once again, defeating it with a super-effective Thunderbolt. Bea proceeded to send Grapploct out again, who used Octolock. Pikachu, under Ash's advice, tried to relax his muscles to break free, but Bea, having recognized the trick from before, had Grapploct throw him into the air before unleashing a powerful Close Combat, causing him to faint. Ash took him to the side and he watched as Lucario defeated both it and her Machamp.[20]
Pikachu was sent out to battle the Alternative World Team Rocket alongside Goh's Cinderace, but before the Mouse Pokémon could do anything, it devolved back into Pichu while Cinderace devolved back into Raboot. Ash had no choice but to put Pichu into one of the pockets of the vest. Pikachu, as a Pichu, later tries to help break the Red Chain that binded Dialga and Palkia together while fighting. But it ended up getting turned into an egg along with every other Pokémon while Ash, Goh, Dawn, Chloe and their Alternate World counterparts deaged back into toddlers. Moments after the Alternate World Team Rocket was defeated, Ash, his friends, and their Alternate World counterparts, along with Cynthia, Alternate World Professor Rowan, Jessie, James and Alternate World Nurse Joy's help, prayed for Dialga and Palkia to stop fighting and pleaded them to turn their Pokémon back to their normal forms. Just then, a bright golden silhouette of Arceus appeared, calmed the temporal and spacial Pokémon down and destroyed the Red Chain. Dialga and Palkia then fixed the damage their fighting caused and returned everyone back to their respective dimensions, while also granting their wish to reverse the devolution effects on all of their Pokémon, returning Pichu back to Pikachu.[21]
Pikachu later observed Ash's match against Raihan, where he witnessed Lucario defeat Raihan's Gigantamaxed Duraludon with a particularly powerful Aura Sphere. This caused Ash to win the match, and Pikachu jumped on Lucario's face to celebrate the victory.[22]
Pikachu later reunited with Ash's Alola team when he revisited Alola after helping Lillie reunite with her father, Mohn. It then ate lunch with Ash's Alola Pokémon alongside with his teammates. But when he heard that Ash wants to participate in the Battle Royal, he participated in it alongside his trainer while performing the signature 10,000,000 Volt Thunderbolt.[23]
Pikachu was later seen doing some hard training with his teammates for the upcoming Masters Tournament. By the end of the day, he is later seen resting with them after a long exhausting day of training.[24]
Pikachu watched the first three matches of the Masters Eight tournament alongside his friends at the stadium. When Iris sent out her Excadrill, he was excited to see him again.[25]
In Ash's match against Steven Stone in the Masters Eight tournament, Pikachu was sent as the last Pokémon after Gengar was knocked out by Steven's Cradily. Pikachu took advantage of his small size to dodge Cradily's attacks and defeat it. Steven then sent out Metagross and Mega Evolved it, who dealt massive damage to Pikachu. However, he endured and Ash used the 10,000,000 Volt Thunderbolt to overwhelm Metagross, defeating it with Iron Tail and allowing Ash to advance to the quarter-finals.[26]
Pikachu was later sent to face Cynthia's Spiritomb after it had defeated both Dragonite and Gengar. Having known its attacks, Ash ordered Pikachu to perform a Thunderbolt tornado, allowing him to dispel the Hypnosis waves it was emitting before proceeding to ensnare its Odd Keystone with Electroweb and defeating it with Iron Tail. However, it managed to pull off Destiny Bond before the move connected; dark energy emerged from the Keystone and engulfed him in it, causing him to faint.[27]
Ash eventually defeated Cynthia with Lucario's assistance, allowing him to face Leon in the finals. During his match against Leon, Pikachu fought Leon's Cinderace but had some trouble dealing damage due to its Libero ability and usage of Scorching Sands, so he was recalled to the side. After all of his teammates had been defeated, Pikachu had to face Cinderace and Charizard; during the match, he was able to Gigantamax after Eternatus gave Ash and Leon Dynamax energy, where he easily prevailed against Cinderace. He then went up against Charizard and managed to defeat it after the encouragement of his former and current teammates and Ash, allowing him to win and be crowned the new Monarch.[28]
