Armaldo (Japanese: アーマルド, Hepburn: Aamarudo) (ar-MAL-do) is a Rock/Bug-type Fossil Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

Biology

Physiology

Armaldo is based on the extinct Anomalocaris, while also sharing traits with the Therizinosaurus.

It mostly resembles Anorith, but its body is more similar to a bipedal reptile. Its fins have moved up to its neck, its eyes are now less bug like and its front pincers have grown bigger. It has also grown legs.

Natural abilities

With its huge claws and armored body, Armaldo is well equipped for battle. It is amphibious, capable of Swimming with its wings and walking on land. Armaldo's claws can smash rocks and punch through steel, and can freely retract and extend.

Evolution

Armaldo is the evolved form of Anorith, evolving once it reaches level 40.

Trivia

Origin

Armaldo is based on the extinct Anomalocaris, while also sharing traits with the Therizinosaurus. It may also have been inspired by the Godzilla kaiju Gigan, one of Godzilla's most well known enemies.

Etymology

Armaldo and Āmarudo come from armor, ald ("old" in Old Low German), and possibly 丸 (maru, literally meaning "circle" but likely chosen because it is often part of samurai names).
