Appearance[]
Amethio post one-year timeskip
Amethio is a young boy with purple eyes. Along with his black and silver hair color, he wears black pants with a purple stripe on his right side. He also wears a dark purple sweatshirt with a purple stripe going down his left side, black gloves, and dark purple shoes. His attire is donned with a polo tie with a dark purple triangular gem.
As a child, Amethio wore a white long-sleeved shirt, grey suspenders, as well as black socks and shoes.
As a preteen, Amethio wore a white shirt, a grey sleeveless sweatervest, black trousers and shoes. He also started wearing his polo tie during that age.
After the one-year timeskip, Amethio's hair has grown longer and shaggier, and is now tied into a mini ponytail. His clothes and shoes have become visibly ragged, and he has also lost his polo tie and gloves. However, he later changes his outfit again; this time wearing a grey shirt, a dark purple suit with black, pruple, and silver accents, with his trousers having a lone, straight, sharp purple line. He also wears black gloves and shoes, and has once again donned his dark purple triangular gem on his shirt collar.
Part of his black hair is inherited from his father Cervantis, while his silver sided hair and purple eyes are passed down from his mother and grandfather's parentage.[1]
Personality[]
Calm and collected, Amethio belies his manipulativeness and ruthlessness. He is willing to meet his own ends, even if it means harming others with his cruel actions. He also doesn't like his credit being disregarded or repudiated, even going far lengths to prove himself regardless of going against orders.
Despite his coldness, ruthlessness, and callousness, he has a softer side that he would rather deny. For example, he would reassure Zirc and Onia even if they have failed, albeit in a matter-of-factly way. He also cares about his Ceruledge, who is his partner Pokémon, although he prefers not to show his affection towards it.
Additionally, Amethio is very firm about achieving his goals, usually feeling disgruntled whenever he loses to an opponent, but also has honor for those he respects. Although initially downcasted after his grandfather's death, he is encouraged to regains his resolve of removing Spinel from the Explorers after meeting Liko again and battling against Liko's Charcadet with his Ceruledge.
Etymology[]
His name is derived from the mineral "amethyst".
Biography[]
Amethio was a higher-up within the Explorers who is sent to retrieve a pendant from Liko, including two subordinates under him for reasons unknown. He was born as the only son to Maria and Cervantis, and thus by extension Gibeon's only grandson.
One day when a younger Amethio and his family were at a beach on an island near Levincia, Amethio came across a Charcadet, and they became friends. Since then, Charcadet had been Amethio's irreplaceable companion even before it would later evolve into Ceruledge.[2]
When he was a child, however, he lost his mother who died in a car accident. Since then, he was raised by Hamber, who is both his butler and guardian.[1]
Initially when he was assigned to have Zirc and Onia under his new subordinates, Amethio didn't have the best relationship with them. But after he demonstrated his composure and efficiency in enacting missions, both subordinates had since pledged their loyalty to him.[2]
Tracking Liko to the Indigo Academy, Amethio discovered her after asking a faculty member about her. Meeting Liko, he gave her a letter claiming that her grandmother wanted the pendant back. Liko accepted the letter with some hesitation and scolded her Sprigatito, as it was growling at him. Following Liko to her dorm, Liko expressed suspicion about his intentions as he waited outside. After waiting a while, he knocked on the door, startling Liko, who proceeded to flee from the campus. When he opened the door, he was unsurprised that she had chosen to flee and ordered Zirc and Onia to find her.
Zirc was successful in finding her, but had his Rhydon put to sleep. Confronting her, Amethio asked her to give the pendant or he would have to resort to force, but before he could do anything, another man dropped down and stated that Liko was under his protection. Bringing out his Ceruledge, the two sides clashed briefly before Amethio noticed Liko trying to escape in the chaos. After ordering Ceruledge to use Psycho Cut on them, he was stunned when a strange barrier surrounded Liko and her Pokémon, during which the man used the moment to escape with her.[3]
After coming back to his senses, Amethio ordered a pursuit, tracking the Brave Olivine. Friede, noticing their pursuers, tried to lose them in the storm, but Amethio was not fazed by the threat and managed to board the ship. Finding Liko with some of the Pokémon, he asked her why she had run. Liko eventually decided to go with him as to not cause any more trouble, but Friede returned with his Pikachu and another clash ensued. After his Ceruledge hit some of the ship's Pokémon by accident, Liko initially wanted to have them stop, but her Sprigatito decided otherwise. Amethio was caught off-guard by the Leafage, though it also resulted in the barrier surrounding the deck to shatter. Noticing Sprigatito being blown off the deck, he had his Corviknight rescue her before fleeing.[4]
Amethio and his subordinates arrived at a dock where they set up base at a warehouse, walking in on Onia playing with Sprigatito. He did not mind her actions, since he did not want to use Sprigatito as a bargaining chip. When she informed her that the Rising Volt Tacklers were spotted in the city, he ordered her to lure them to the warehouse. There, he met Friede again and had another battle, during which Liko rescued her Sprigatito. Despite pushing Friede into a corner, he only realized that he had been deceived when he saw Sprigatito's Leafage emerge behind him.[5]
Despite the setback, they were able to track the Brave Olivine due to a tracker that Zirc had planted on the ship, leading them to a small Kantonian island. He was warned by his superiors not to underestimate Friede, though he was not too concerned about him. He briefly battled Liko and Roy, having the initial advantage due to his Ceruledge being far stronger than his opponents. This was quickly lost however when both Liko and Roy's treasures reacted to each other, releasing a powerful Rayquaza from the Poké Ball and used a powerful Draco Meteor, forcing him to retreat. As he reported back to his superiors, he was berated by Spinel, who doubted his claims about the shiny Rayquaza. Gibeon subsequently removed him from the mission, leaving him angered but undeterred as he refocused his sights on the Legendary Pokémon instead.[6]
Amethio would later track an unusual Moltres at the Galar Mines, though they ran into the Rising Volt Tacklers and were forced to temporarily withdraw. After Onia expressed worry that their trip to Galar would not mean anything, Amethio proposed sneaking into the castle and stealing Liko's pendant. During the attack on Diana's castle, Amethio and his subordinates tried to cut Liko off to no avail, resulting in him fighting Friede again. Aware of his opponent's strategy, Amethio intentionally had Ceruledge get hit to activate its Weak Armor, but he finally had his first loss to him after Friede Terastalized his Charizard into a Dark-type and hit Ceruledge with a super effective Tera Blast. The assault would ultimately end in failure after Coral had her Glalie use Self-Destruct, giving the Rising Volt Tacklers a chance to escape. Amethio only responded by quietly looking towards the sky.
During a meeting with the other Explorer admins, Coral and Sidian wanted to go after the Rising Volt Tacklers due to having awakened three of Lucius' Pokémon, though Spinel found the idea too risky due to having witnessed the pendant's power first-hand. He then suggested they should just monitor them, which Amethio supported, though he stated that it was not the pendant that awakened the Pokémon, but rather the black Rayquaza and suggested they prioritize it instead, which the others agreed with.[7]
Continuing in his pursuit of the black Rayquaza, Amethio and his subordinates would later discover it after the Rising Volt Tacklers found Lucius' Lapras. He attempted to challenge the mighty Pokémon, but despite his efforts, Ceruledge was defeated. He later escaped and returned to Hamber, telling him that Rayquaza got away, which Hamper recognized as him wanting to get stronger.[8] After a short discussion about the Sky High Pokémon, Amethio sensed that it did not seem interested in fighting him, but seemed to be testing him and declared that he would catch it. He then requested training with Hamber, who accepted his request and sent his Dusknoir to battle him. While Dusknoir proves to be challenging for the pair, Amethio does not give up, though he ends up losing the battle after Hamber uses his Tera Orb on Dusknoir. Noting his desire to become stronger, Hamber hands him his own Tera Orb, though seemingly unbeknownst to the two, they were being watched by Spinel and Chalce.[9]
When Rayquaza's Draco Meteor almost hit Terapagos, Amethio ordered his Ceruledge to shield Terapagos. He also Terastalized Ceruledge during the battle, but was overpowered by Rayquaza regardless. Before returning with Zirc and Onia back to the Explorers' headquarters, Amethio responded a grateful Liko that Rayquaza was only his prey and nothing else.[10]
Amethio had a long awaited face-to-face meeting with his grandfather Gibeon. He expressed his full realization of Gibeon's plans, and feeling proud to be Gibeon's grandson, vowed to complete the task of capturing Terapagos. He also told Hamber that unlike his father, he would follow in his grandfather's footsteps. Onia and Zirc then contacted him, telling him that Spinel had gone to some other place by himself in a car. When Zirc asked if he needed to go after them, Amethio said that there was no need to go after their colleagues, and recognized his two henchmen's work. Amethio thought that it was still necessary to keep an eye on Spinel, who was secretly planning something, and vowed that he wouldn't fall behind during the operation of capturing Rayquaza again.[11]
Suspecting Spinel for having ulterior motives, Amethio came to Glaseado Mountains to investigate, when he came across Liko. Just as he and Liko sent out Ceruledge and Floragato to battle, they were interrupted by Spinel. Amethio tried to ward off Spinel, only for Spinel's Umbreon to defeat Ceruledge. Amethio and Liko were then trapped inside a cave, after Spinel teleported out via his Beheeyem.[12] After he and Liko were both trapped inside the cave, Amethio started to become friendlier to Liko, after he learned why she faltered at his then Terastalized Ceruledge was because of feeling upset over failing her implementation test. He also informed Liko of Gibeon and the Explorers' ambition of exploiting Terapagos and entering a paradise. After breaking some rocks with Liko and both escaping from the cave, Amethio rejected Liko's offer of joining the Rising Volt Tacklers, as he felt he was not ready and that he and Liko were two different people regardless of similar goals. However, him helping Liko was filmed by Spinel, who framed him as betraying the Explorers. Without being given a chance to explain at the Explorers headquarters, Amethio finally realized Gibeon only regarded him as a tool, as Gibeon furiously told Amethio to never in front of him appear again.[13]
After being sacked, Amethio still decided to go on a solo mission of his own. He then told Zirc and Onia to leave him, as he would no longer be considered their boss. However, he smiled after knowing that Zirc and Onia refused to leave him and would keep being his friends instead, and let them join him as a result.[14]
Sometime later, Amethio decided to interrogate his father Cervantis about details of Laquium. However, he left in disappointment after seeing how Cervantis was being neglectful and unresponsive to him with the excuse of being forbidden from telling such confidential information by Exceed's higher-ups.[15]
Amethio later led Zirc and Onia to investigate Spinel's lab, only to be apprehended by Spinel's security. Fortunately, the trio were saved by Hamber, who brought them to Amethio's childhood manor. Amethio and his two subordinates then learned from Hamber that he befriended Gibeon, after Gibeon helped him when he lost directions during a journey. After learning that Gibeon had dissented with Lucius regarding the use of Laquim and was revived by the same chemical, and that Spinel had plans to betray Gibeon's trust, Amethio, along with Zirc and Onia, decided to head to Laqua to save Gibeon from falling further astray into Spinel's plans.[1] After seeing how his grandfather was too stubborn to listen to his warning about Spinel, Amethio had enough of Gibeon and decided to ally with the Rising Volt Tacklers to stop Gibeon and the other Explorer members from excavating more Laquium.[16]
Eventually, Amethio teamed up with the Rising Volt Tacklers against Gibeon. Amethio, after successfully convincing Gibeon about the bonds between people and Pokémon, finally received the acknowledgement he had always wanted from his grandfather, who later passed away in front of him. Amethio then shared a nod with Liko as his way to show his respect to her, before riding on his Corviknight to leave Laqua with Zirc and Onia.[17]
One year later, after Liko, Zirc and Onia managed to track him down, it is revealed that Amethio has been hiding himself away from Spinel and out of guilt towards Gibeon's death, with Ceruledge defending him from Spinel's henchmen that planned to capture him. Amethio is happy that his subordinates are safe, and he would confide his past in Liko, while also telling her that he doesn't have the courage to face Hamber out of shame. After having a short battle by sending Ceruledge against Liko's Charcadet, Amethio regains his drive to defeat Spinel, and receives the Zygarde Cube from Zirc and Onia, whom he advises to return to Explorers while he works alone to figure out a plan for the time being.[2] Later, when Amethio loses balance and almost falls off his Corviknight in a storm, he is saved by Mighty G. While waiting for the storm to be over, Amethio learns some basic survival skills, such as making curry rice and drying his own clothes. Thanks to Mighty G's encouragement, Amethio has consolidated his faith in his Pokémon, and continues his journey after thanking Mighty G's help.[18]
When the five remaining members of the Six Heroes went on a Laquium-inflicted rampage, Amethio arrives with Zygarde, who had now become one of his Pokémon. However, he is unable to help the Rising Volt Tacklers in time, owing to Coral and Sidian's interference. After meeting up with Hamber and Cervantis, he tells the originally downcasted Cervantis that there is still time for everyone to rescue the Six Heroes and before Spinel would further spread the influence of Strong Spheres. Amethio then officially establishes a cordial alliance with the Rising Volt Tacklers, before he along with Hamber and Cervantis depart.[19]
