The Altering Cave is a location introduced in Generation III.

Description

In FireRed and LeafGreen, in the Sevii Islands, the cave is found on Outcast Island, found north of Six Island. In Emerald, in the Hoenn region, it is found on Route 103 on the east bank of the inlet that passes through the center of the route. However, unlike in in FireRed and LeafGreen, the cave appears only after the player makes it to the Hall of Fame. Also, the interior of the Altering Cave in Emerald differs from the one in FireRed and LeadGreen. This cave does not exist in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire.

Under normal circumstances, only Zubats are encountered here. A greater variety of Pokémon would have appeared by receiving a Mystery Gift through the "Wonder Spot" event sponsored by Nintendo, although the event was never held, so the event-exclusive Pokémon could never be found here. No Pokémon Trainers appear in the Altering Cave.

The reason that the event was never held was because the function of trades already allowed others to trade from other games so they removed the event.^{[citation needed]}

The Altering Cave's preview graphic in Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version is nearly identical to the Lost Cave's, except the Altering Cave preview uses a lighter palette, is less foggy, and has some visible grass. It is basically a flipped version of the Seafoam Islands' preview graphic, which itself uses a different palette than the Lost Cave and Seafoam Island.
