A Decamark or ???????? Pokemon can be seen by cheating in Pokemon Ruby, Emerald and Sapphire. One way is to use a code to walk through barriers and walk through the trees above Littleroot town before getting a Pokemon from Professor Birch. When a wild Pokemon appears, you have no Pokemon in your party, so the Decamark is displayed as your Pokemon instead.

Another version of the ?????????? can be found in Crystal, Gold, or Silver by attempting to clone a Pokemon; sometimes, if done incorrectly, the Pokemon will appear normal but its name will show as ??????????, and may crash the game if not turned off immediately. For example an attempt to clone a Quilava has turned out a Quilava with the name ??????????, and the game was immediately turned off, such that the Pokemon disappeared and no negative side effects were received.
