For those of you who read the Pokemon Adventures manga, imma rank all 14 arcs (not counting sword and shield cause viz hasn't published it all yet)
We start at number 14 -- the worst arc -- and work our way up to number 1 -- the best.
14 - Red & Blue: This arc is honestly just basic. I can see that they were trying to get the first arc as close to the games as possible to set a baseline, and I get it, but I like the character development and complex plots of the later arcs.
13 - X&Y: I really don't like this arc. I feel like everything is too fast-paced and I hate that the group doesn't have a goal. Ever since they leave Professor Sycamore's lab, they have nothing they're after, and I don't like that in a story. I also feel like the ending was really bad, because they defeat Lysandre, and it's like... is that it? What do you do with him? The few extra pages of Malva's true goal that VIZ didn't include in their mini-volumes help a bit, as does the final chapter where they give Delphox to Whitley, but slowing it down a little would help a lot.
12 - Gold & Silver: This arc goes from Yellow -- with a main character with a unique goal -- to Gold, a trainer with an unclear goal. From the beginning, he wants to investigate Silver, but as the two of them partner up more, his goal kinda falls apart as he realizes Silver isn't his enemy. This arc is more about Silver's goal of revenge instead of Gold's "goal", and I don't really like that.
11 - Platinum: We already got a "challenge the Frontier, but also have another agenda" theme with Emerald. I think Platinum is a strong Trainer on her own, but I really enjoy seeing her with Pearl and Diamond -- the three of them work so well together. The best part was probably the epic fight in the Distortion World between every single Legendary Pokemon -- minus Arceus, of course.
10 - Diamond & Pearl: This arc felt a little more childish -- and I think that was intentional. From the drawing style, to the fact that we're going from 16 year old characters to 12 year old characters, and to the constant comedy routines. I like the overall feel of it, I just enjoy the more serious, mature arcs more. I feel like we got more of that as the arc progressed, mainly from Cyrus's goal of a new universe.
9 - Sun & Moon: This arc is okay, but I think there are two things that really would make it better. One -- I think making it longer and splitting it into two arcs, with the divide when they get lost in Ultra Space, would make it better, because the whole "six months later" thing really threw me off. Two -- the big bad needs a clearer goal. In my opinion, the big bad is Faba, not Lusamine. We only get ONE fight scene with Lusamine, while we know of Faba and how much Sun hates him basically the whole arc. But he needs a clearer goal, rather than just "kill Lusamine, then see what happens". At least Lusamine's goal of an Ultra Beast paradise is clear.
8 - HeartGold & SoulSilver: I like this arc and how it focuses on Arceus. I feel like Arceus -- despite being a literal god -- is a stereotypical Legendary pokemon, in the fact that it hates humans. But Arceus has so much potential as not only a Pokemon, but a character, and I really like how Gold's relationship with his Togepi brought Arceus back to common sense.
7 - Yellow: I like this arc a lot as it's a nice change from the previous arc, Red & Blue. I like how it's not another trainer aiming to be the best, but a perfectly valid and unique goal. I also like Yellow's interactions with Lance, and I think they're what really make the arc good. All I want is to see Yellow more -- we haven't seen her since the Emerald arc.
6 - Emerald: This definitely has an Avengers: Endgame feel to it -- seeing all ten Pokédex Holders together. I definitely want another arc like this, with every single Pokédex Holder together again. Kusaka and Yamamoto are getting old, and the series has to end eventually, and I just hope it ends like this did. The only reason I'm not ranking Emerald higher is because I feel like we need a better main character. The character development was great, but that doesn't change the fact that Emerald is just annoying -- with or without his newfound love for Pokemon.
5 - FireRed & LeafGreen: This arc is one of the best ones. I really enjoy seeing Red's character development, since we didn't get much of that in his original arc. The lore with Deoxys and how it connects to Hoenn is top-tier, and I enjoy seeing Mewtwo come back. Another really great part is Silver and Giovanni's relationship -- sort of a Empire Strikes Back stereotype. Overall -- really good arc.
4 - Black2 & White2: This also has an Avengers: Endgame feel, not of Pokedex Holders, but completely within Unova. The final attack with all the Pledges also reminds me (and was probably based on) of Ultima's special moves that the Pokedex Holders used in Emerald. I really enjoyed seeing Black come back, and I liked seeing all the characters come together.
3 - Ruby & Sapphire: The character development in this arc is OUTSTANDING. I love seeing Ruby and Sapphire interact, fight, fall in love, etc. Book 19 makes me cry Every. Single. Time. The entire ending of Book 21 was amazing (though they should've kissed) and overall I really enjoy these two's relationships.
2 - Black & White: Forgive me for this, but Black and White are not the two main characters in this arc. While I TOTALLY ship the two of them together, in my opinion, the main characters are Black and N. The relationship the two of them have is amazing, where, throughout the arc, you get to see them both see the other's side. Pair that with the fact that N is probably the best written character in the entire Pokemon franchise, and you get a really good arc.
1 - Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire: The. Best. Arc. Ever. I really like an urgent story, and the ten-day countdown is the definition of urgent. I also think that the bigger-scale story works really well with these characters, and I would like to see a lot more of that. The relationship between Ruby and Sapphire, even in a remake arc, continues to develop, and I think that really makes the arc perfect.
Overall, my general takeaway is that I REALLY love the mature and serious topics and themes in arcs like Yellow and ORAS, and I would love to see more of those.

LOCATION: MOUNT MOON
“Right there… right over the hill… Mount Moon!” Misty sprinted towards Mount Moon, Red following close behind her.
“Somebody’s already there!” Misty whispered. It was a group of men all wearing black uniforms with red R’s on the front.
“Is that Team Rocket?” asked Misty.
“I think so…” answered Red. They found another entrance into the caves and began searching.
It was pitch black, so Red called out Pika, who used Flash to illuminate the cavern. Red was walking backwards, talking to Misty, when he slammed into a small boulder. “Stupid rock!” he shouted. “I oughta–”
“Red…?” said Misty. “Look up…”
Red did not see what he expected. What he thought was a boulder was really a rhino Pokémon’s face. It was called Rhyhorn, and its body looked as if it was entirely made out of stone.
There was a Team Rocket man standing next to Rhyhorn. The man looked like a ninja. He had spiky black hair, a purple scarf, and a tight outfit. Rhyhorn used Rock Blast on Pika. Pika electrified the rocks, and sent them hurling back at the rhino.
A blue light enveloped Rhyhorn, and when it faded, Rhyhorn had evolved into Rhydon. Rhydon looked almost the same as its pre-evolved form, only it had thicker skin, and it walked on two legs instead of four.
Misty called out Staryu, who used Aqua Beam. Rhydon used Horn Drill, and drilled a path through the water. It punched Misty, who slammed against the rough wall. She slid down, and Red saw that she had a bloody wound on the side of her head.
Pika used Quick Attack, but Rhydon trapped it under its gigantic foot. Rhydon kicked Pika up in the air. Pika’s tail wedged into the wall and dislodged a boulder. It fell out of place and crashed on Rhydon. When the dust cleared, Red and Misty were gone.
“You shoulda seen me in there!” Red bragged. “I nailed Rhydon with Pika in one shot, and then I–”
“Whatever,” sighed Misty. “But we didn’t get the Moon Stone, and Team Rocket must–”
“Hey, if you’d let me finish my story…” interrupted Red. “The cave collapsed after Pika used Tail Strike, and there it was!” He held out his hand to reveal a purplish rock with a dent in the shape of a moon. “We did it!”

LOCATION: ROUTE 6
The tween girl staggered across the field. She was bleeding badly. She had orange hair tucked into a ponytail. She looked up to see a gigantic blue sea serpent Pokémon called Gyarados.
Gyarados used Hydro Pump, and the girl’s star Pokémon, Staryu, fell to the ground.
“Taking on a pretty big one, aren’t you?” said a voice. The girl turned to see Red standing behind her.
“Stay back, you!” she ordered. “This is dangerous!”
“I’ll be fine!” insisted Red. “And by the way – the name’s not you! Specifically, it’s Red!”
Red called out Saur. Gyarados used Hydro Pump, but it had no effect on the small green dinosaur Pokémon. “No Water attack’s gonna work on a Grass Pokémon!” Red bragged. “Water just heals grass!”
Saur used Leech Seed, and in no time, Gyarados was covered in thick vines.
Staryu used Recover, and its injuries were healed. Saur attacked with Vine Whip, and Staryu attacked with Bubblebeam. Finally, Red threw a Poké Ball, and he caught Gyarados. They had won.
“Thanks a lot… um…” stammered the girl.
“One more time – the name’s Red!” said Red. “I didn’t expect to see a Pokémon that big… not here of all places! Was it wild or was it…”
The girl sighed before saying, “Gyarados is a Water Pokémon. And it’s not supposed to live in habitats like this…”
“I figured,” said Red. “So what is it doing here?”
“That Gyarados isn’t wild,” whispered the girl. “It’s my Pokémon. I was raising it until last week, when somebody stole it. When it came back, it wasn’t the sweet Gyarados I knew anymore. I’ve been tracking it… not hard to do since it’s been destroying everything in its path. Anyway, thanks for the help. Everything’s okay n–”
“It is NOT!!” interrupted Red.
“It’s never OKAY when a Pokémon goes berserk! Those guys who stole Gyarados must be responsible for this! I’m gonna go kick their butts!”
“And where do you think you’re going?” sighed the girl.
“I’m going…” Red trailed off. “Those thieves… you said they were… where did you say they were?”
“If I knew, don’t you think I’d be there?” said the girl.
Then Red got an idea. “Maybe the Professor knows something…” he realized.
The Pewter Pokémon Center was back in business, so Red and the girl went to one of their computers and called Professor Oak. “Red! It’s been a while!” said Oak. “Getting closer to completing your Pokédex?”
“As a matter of fact, I am!” Red held out his Pokédex so that the Professor could see. “By the way, I have a question…” And Red told Professor Oak all about the Gyarados incident.
“So the Pokémon refuses to listen to its Trainer after just a few days…” he mused. “Sounds like the doings of Team Rocket!”
“What’s Team Rocket?” asked Red. “Team Rocket, led by a man called Giovanni, is a secret society that uses Pokémon for evil!”
Giovanni… Red thought. Where had he heard that name before?
“Recently, they’re rumored to be constructing lab experiments on Pokémon,” Oak continued. “Distressing, I know. But there is something you can do to help. On Mount Moon, there is said to be a Moon Stone. A stone, they say, that is able to enormously boost the power of a Pokémon. It is likely that Team Rocket is after this stone. Now that you know, you can steal the stone from them. Good luck!”
“That does it!” yelled Red, storming out of the Pokémon Center. “I can’t wait to complete the Pokédex, but first I’m gonna find these Team Rocket guys, and I’m gonna kick their butts! I – where are you going?”
He turned to see the girl still following him. “I’m going with you!” she replied. “Mount Moon is on the way to my hometown. If I go with you, I’m bound to run into a lot of Trainers I know. I might be able to get more information on this Team Rocket!”
“Wait a minute!” Red gasped. “You don’t think you can take on–”
The girl held out a bunch of Poké Balls, all containing Water-Type Pokémon. “I’m a Water expert,” she explained. “The caves in the mountain are full of Rock Pokémon. I think I can hold my own just fine.” She held out her hand.
“I forgot to introduce myself. My name’s Misty. I’m from Cerulean City. Nice to meet you!” And so Red and Misty set off towards Mount Moon in pursuit of the Moon Stone.
