I did this for Johto, but I should have done this for Kanto first. This is the riskiest one to make because its Kanto, but remember, this is my opinion. You can agree or disagree with me. Also, just like last time, I will explain the positives of both the original and the remakes (LGFR and Let’s Go) first and the negatives that the original had and the remakes didn't fix or improve on. Let's get started with the positives.
This game set the franchise up. It is the game that many people bought the gameboy for and made the many lovable and memorable creatures we have today.
The remakes not only improved on the already existing Kanto, but expanded on it with the Sevii Islands and a post game giving a reason to continue playing.
While Blue might not be my favorite rival, he is one of the best. Probably number 3 for me. He set the standard for the one always ahead of you and it feels great to beat him.
The remakes fixed the problem with the story, because the Sevii Islands feel like a second story mode with all the events that you go on.
Let's Go is actually very experimental and Kanto was the best reason to try it on because it is linear and hard to break the love of the region. And I have said before that I think Let's Go is the best version of Kanto.
Ok, now the negatives
Even though the remakes fixed the story part, it didn't fix the lore part. For example, the legends are just there, but why are they legendary? Why do they reside in those locations? How did they appear in Kanto? Give me something.
The Ghost and Dragon types might as well not exist. There is one family of each Gengar line and Dragonite line.
This is a Let's Go gripe, but Trace is a MASSIVE downgrade from Blue. Blue was so good that Trace disappoints.
Remember this is a retrospective, not hating on Kanto. I have more positives than negatives and 1 of my negatives is 1 game compared to the other Kanto games.
