Just curious, how come infoboxes for characters who are Pokémon don't have a "species" row? Like, what if someone's new to the franchise?

We got Pikachu, "the Mouse Pokémon", and Meowth, the "Scratch cat Pokémon". Implying those two animals exist in the Pokéverse. Yet we never see them.
