What if, in the Pokémon anime; Tobias was never created, Ash wins the Sinnoh League and is retired from the anime at that point, and from every region onward, the main protagonist of the anime is one of the player characters from the games?

Sometimes, there are certain characters that I don't like, but at least their Pokemon are good.
Tobias - I actually don't hate him as much as everyone else. Anyway, his Darkrai and Latios each have nice balanced movesets.
Trip - As was the case with Paul, his attitude was terrible. His Pokemon team however was very ideal. I actually used that team once and it worked out great. Except maybe for Vanilluxe, but that may be because I didn't train it right.
Cameron - Seriously, Unova taking place in Johto. Yet, how did he get a Hydreigon and Lucario?!
What human characters do you not like, but still love their Pokemon.
Because we only see Latios and Darkrai only so what the other Pokemon that He Have?
One thing I never understood about the anime is how people can mercilessly hate on Tobias day & night while still being able to ask for Alain's autograph even though they hate him for costing Ash the Kalos League (I know, Alain's a fictional character, this is just an exaggeration). So, I'm going to justify one of my favorite anime one-off characters and give him the positive image he deserves... to the best of my ability anyway.
To do this, I'm going to... attempt... to debunk the two arguments I see used against Tobias a lot on the internet. And I mean "a lot." Those arguments being that he had no buildup due to being shoehorned into the last arc of the Sinnoh chapter and his usage of Legendary Pokémon in the Sinnoh League.
First, the "no buildup" argument. This is a half-truth at best. While, yes, I can agree that Tobias was shoehorned into the Sinnoh League, the writers did find a way to build him up despite that. The first instance was during "League Unleashed," where Barry - after he had just finished his match and is on his way to see Ash's - runs into Tobias. He immediately goes to tell Brock & Dawn about it, and Barry could tell that something was... off about Tobias, and wanted to fine him to boot.
The other instance was Conway's info drop on Tobias during the episode "Casting a Paul on Barry," in which Ash & the others find out just how much of a powerhouse Tobias truly is. While it isn't much foreshadowing, it is certainly enough to give off a mysterious aura about the character, and it did leave me eager to learn more about him. Plus, it made the match between Ash & Tobias all the more satisfying in my opinion.
Now, let's talk about the other elephant in the room - his Darkrai & Latios. I know this is influenced by the mentality of competitive Pokémon, but let me just say this right now - THE ANIME DOES NOT FOLLOW THAT MENTALITY. Heck, why do you think that one trainer in the episode "An Old Family Blend" had a HEATRAN?
In fact, in the franchise's core games (which the anime is based off of), there are no rules on Legendary or Mythical Pokémon being banned from the League Challenge at all, nor there being any set amount of those Pokémon that you can use! The same thing goes for the Battle Frontier, heck, Pyramid King Brandon has the Regi trio - both in Ruby & Sapphire & the anime - and the FREAKING LEGENDARY BIRDS in Emerald. So, yeah, I fail to see why Tobias using two Legendaries in the Sinnoh League is a cause for concern in the slightest.
Anyway, those are my thoughts on the negative - in my opinion - feedback that Tobias receives. Let me know what you think.
