So, i think you know what a supporter is, right? They raise stats and heal the attackers so they can do their stuff. Well, a certain overlooked supporter caught my eye; ribombee. Now, at first glance, it's stats don't look like much just a bunch of sixties and seventies, people have said to me "its so frail!" and "it's speed is the only thing good about it!" but they're DEFINITELY wrong, and here's why:
Speed swap
Well, not many pokemon use this, and I have never seen it used ONCE in competitive, but there more to the eye than a random never-used move. The thing is, ribombee has 124 speed. That can top Landorus, Cinderace, and countless other popular pokemon. But, Ribombee isn't a very good attacker, but others are, like the said Cinderace and Landorus. Just do a simple speed swap and BOOM! Ciderace and Landorus are faster than lightning! so much for Inteleon, Cinderace's said rival. But, if Ribombee's speed is lowered, isn't it basically helpless? that brings us to the next part:
Helping hand
Yeah, supporter gold, one of togekiss and whimsicott's many claims to fame. It even has PRIORITY! Well, thats why it should be used for Ribombee. Say, if ribombee switches speed with, lets say, escavalier, it now has thirty speed, pitiful. But the thing is; helping hand has priority. So it doesn't matter if the user is fast or slow, it just goes first. But what if the enemy is too fast for ribombee, like dragapult? well, that's why we just slap a focus sash on ribombee and read this next part:
Sticky web
Yeah, galvantula(essay on galvantula coming soon!) is a pretty good user of sticky web, crippling opponents like dragapult or choice scarf gyardos, but ribombee is even better. See, with a focus sash, it can survive a hit from the other pokemon-just once though- with one HP, just enough for it to spring the trap, the sticky web cripples fast opponents that are switched in, and allows your speed-swapped copperajah or escavalier to take care of them. and ribombee doesn't need that much speed to pull it off(unless both pokemon attack ribombee). But what if an attacker needs healing, and faints the next turn, and ribombee is left helpless? Well, not that helpless anymore
Pollen puff
You've probably fought that annoying eldegoss that keeps healing it's allies and attacking you with the same move. That's because its using pollen puff. If directed toward an ally, it heals them, and an enemy, attacks them. You can see how useful this is, because it helps in a sticky situation, and allows frail attackers to stay in battle. But, you may be thinking What if that Porygon-Z's max strike lowers my pokemon's speed? or What if that escavalier's iron head makes y pokemon flinch? Well, that won't happen, because
Shield dust
Lets get this straight: this is an ABILITY, not a move, and a pretty rare one, in fact. Not many good pokemon have it. But it is VERY OP! It prevents additional effeects from occurring in moves targeted toward ribombee and it's allies, but doesn't stop status moves, but it helps against dynamax pokemon, where all moves have
Closing
So, yeah, ribombee is OP. it may even be the best(underrated) supporter around. So when you want to pick a supporter for doubles, you just might want to skip those togekisses and whimsicotts that website is telling you to pick and choose ribombee instead.
Tell me what underrated pokemon I should write about next!
I think I'm starting to be a master at drawing Gladion
And I'm starting a rubric The weekly pokemon. And the pokemon of this week will be... Ribombee!
(its 2 in the morning and i have school tomorrow, however, that wont stop my insomnia and motivation from existing rn-)
I was thinking about Ace Attorney and decided to see when the first game on the GBA was released, which was October 12th, 2001. That gave me an idea to make something to celebrate it. Here's some info and quotes I thought of:
Episode Name - Turnabout Stuffy/Saiban Celebration
Theme - Ace Attorney 20th Ann. Special
Characters - Chloe (Pikachu; defense attorney), Adam (Wartortle; defense attorney/assistant), Ace (Victini; prosecutor), Sarados (Zoroark; accused), Scout Leader Slowking (judge), & Mayor Ribombee (victim/witness?) (so far)
Planned Release Date - October 12th, 2021
Quotes
– First testimony –
Slowking: You may begin your testimony, Mayor Ribombee.
~ Witness Testimony ~
Ribombee: "One night, I was sleeping with my most treasured item, my Stuffed Stufful Named Stuffy. He was the cutest and most beautiful thing I've ever had in my entire life. But when I woke up, he wasn't where I had it last! I looked everywhere for him, from under my bed to my shelves, from the rest of my room to even my oven, but he was just nowhere in sight! Oh, who could've done such a thing to steal my precious little Stuffed Stufful Named Stuffy? *sniffle*
~ End of witness testimony ~
Slowking: Well, this seems rather...serious.
Ribombee: Your right on that one! I never thought my Stuffed Stufful Named Stuffy would just...vanish like that...!
Sarados: *exhale* I'm just gonna say that I think it's stupid of you to think that I would just break into your house and steal a Stufful plushie. What would my motive be to steal such a childish thing like that?
Ribombee: It's called a Stuffed Stufful Named Stuffy, thank you very much!
Sarados: Um...whatever.
– After Chloe's objection on some unknown thing –
Ace: Chloe, lemme ask you something. Do you, by chance, know what an illusion is?
Chloe: Y-yeah, what about it?
Ace: Well, did you know that Sarados is a Zoroark, and Zoroark is a species, along with its prevolved form Zorua, that excells at creating illusions and turning into another Pokemon?
Chloe: Excells...at... ... ... Ngh...!!
Ace: That's right. It's still quite possible that Sarados broke into the house and stole the plushie!
Chloe: Ack!
Adam: I'm so sorry Chloe, I didn't think this one thoroughly enough!
Ace: I'm sure by now that you'll have to accept that as a fact; Sarados is the culprit.
Chloe: ... ... ... (Oh, come on! Think of something, MiiChi! Look through the evidence just a few times and-) ...Ah!
Adam: ?
Chloe: I...I think I just figured out...how to prove Sarados' innocence...!
Ace: Wait...
Adam: ...really?!
Chloe: Yes, my theory might still just hold water! Ace, take another look at the photo. Now, you might just see footprints leading outside of Ribombee's home. However, I didn't say "just" for no reason. Look closely at it and you'll noticed another specific detail.
Ace: ... ... ...wait...! You...you don't mean...!
Chloe: Correct! There were no footprints leading *to* the entrance, but rather only leading *away* from the entrance! So how exactly was Sarados supposed to enter the house in the first place?!
Ace: Ngraaaaahhh!!
Adam: Way to go, Chloe! Looks like you hit that Victini right where it hurt!
That's all I have for this thing. Eventually I'll think of some other things for it, but I might not work on this until much later in the year
