By the time Ash finished the Island Challenges, Professor Kukui hadn't even started preparing for the Manalo Conference yet. Kukui suggested that Ash go to the Orange Islands and try his hand there. After learning that virtually no one outside of Alola has Z Crystals, Ash decided not to use them outside of Alola.

After the battle, Drake confessed to Ash that he had seen his Pokémon for the first time in his life. As it turns out, Drake has never been to Alola.
Ash suggested that Drake visit Alola sometime.

Later, the egg found by Ash began to crack and hatched into a Pokémon, which his Pokédex identified as Snover.
It was he who helped Ash decide on the next stop, namely the Sinnoh Region.
Ash decided he wanted to try out new Pokémon, so he only took Snover and Passimian with him.
