Inside of the cave was damp. Somehow, it wasn’t pitch black and we could see where we were going. “Watch out!” Waterking shouted as he pulled me out of the way of a Water Gun. I looked back to where the move came from, and an aggressive Shellos was standing there, getting another move ready. Before it could, I rushed at it and used Scratch. The aggressive Pokemon fainted, and I sighed in relief.
“Thanks.” I said to my Piplup friend.
“You're welcome! It’s a good thing I pushed you out of the way!”
We continued through the floors, trying to avoid more aggressive Pokemon, however we did run into some a few times. I stopped to pick up a fairly sized blue berry off of the ground.
“That’s an Oran Berry.” Waterking said, pointing to the berry with his flipper. “It can heal you when you’re in a tough spot.”
“How do you know this?” I asked.
“Er- Well, I’ve been trying to learn things to help me when I joined the guild.
He rubbed the back of his head embarrestly.
We went to the next floor. “The last floor is right after this one. They should be there.” He said, right before he bumped into a Corsola. The Pokemon made an angry sound as it jumped into me, scratching me with it's sharp branches.
Waterking used Pound and fainted the Corsola. “Are you ok?” He asked me, motioning towards my scratches.
“Yeah.” My gaze peered towards another blue berry on the ground a bit away from us. “Hey! How convenient! An Oran Berry.” I walked over to it and picked it up studying it. This one was slightly darker blue than the one I had picked up earlier.
“No! Wait! STOP!” Waterking yelled to me as I took a bite out of the berry. I immediately spit the piece out as pain shot through my body. I tossed the berry as I stumbled onto the ground.
“I thought you said that Oran Berries would heal! That one was the complete opposite!” I growled at my friend.
He backed up a step or two. “That’s because they do! But that one wasn’t an Oran Berry! It’s called an Oren Berry. It does the opposite of an Oran Berry. It damages instead of healing.” He picked up the bitten berry and decided to carry it. “We might be able to use this against someone fighting us. Oh… I wish we could carry more than one item each.”
“I’m sorry I yelled at you.” I apologized, picking myself up.
***
The last floor took us longer than we thought. Waterking had to use our Oran Berry after fighting a Kabuto. We finally made it out to a little space with rocks and water and sand. At the end of the room was Zubat and Koffing whispering to themselves.
“Hey!” I shouted, walking forward. The two thieves turned around to look at us.
“Well look who it is.” Zubat said, whether it was to us or to Koffing I don’t know.
“It’s the weakling.” Koffing said back to him. “Come to play hero and get his stone back.”
Waterking looked hurt. “I- I’m not a weakling! Sure, I’m not good at fighting but… Give my stone back.”
“As if!” I glared at him as the words came out of Zubat’s mouth.
“We’ll fight for it! We win, you give the stone back. You win, you get to keep it.” I snapped, challenging them. Waterking was about to voice a protest, but I stopped him.
“Fine.” Koffing said, looking amused while they- And Zubat- Got into a fighting stance. “Bring it.”
