So Pokemon has had many ups and downs throughout it's entire franchise. But one thing that remains consistent throughout all of the Games is the Music. Especially the battle themes
So today I'm gonna be discussing with you about the Top 10 Pokemon Battle theme. ( Only from mainline games and anime)
Here are some honourable mentions:
*Chairman Rose's Theme: This theme is one of the most intense and sinister battle theme I have ever heard. But the problem is, it is way too evil for Rose. Giving a theme so evil to a misguided man is the reason why it isn't in top 3. It should have been given to an antagonist who's as evil as Ghetsis or someone. That would definitely have put it in Top 3
* Galarian Slowpoke's theme from IOA: This was definitely awesome. But what put it to the honourable mentions is the fact that It's a Slowpoke getting it's own theme. That's kind of ridiculous. Come on... It's just for a Slowpoke. The music is great nonethless
* Wild Pokemon Battle ( Let's Go): This theme is pretty good but it had to fill the boots of the iconic gen 1 wild battle theme. And it's nowhere close to that.
* Mewtwo battle theme ( Pokemon Origins): This theme, especially the opening is super badass! It's so awesome! The reason it's in the honourable mention is not because it lacks anything. It's because there are themes I prefer more.
*Red's Battle theme ( GSC, HGSS): ICONIC
Ok, on to the Top 10
For number Ten, we have Blue's theme ( multiple games): Ah, back when I was a kid. Lance telling me that I was champion. But then unexpectedly he says there's one more and as we enter the Champion Room, we face him. Our rival. Blue. It was a shock considering i didn't look up in the internet about who the champion was. And then he claims to be the most powerful Trainer in the world. We face him with this intense Battle theme playing. It's so shocking and unexpected. The FireRed and Lets Go versions (even tho it was given to Trace) were better than the original. The B2W2 didn't rlly catch my taste but what rlly made me like this is the Origins version of this. HOLY ARCEUS! IT WAS SOOOO DOPE! I LOVED IT! GOOSEBUMPS! This intense battle theme, the shock when you first face him ( if you didn't get spoiled before the game) is the reason this theme stays on Number 10.
Number 9, we have Wally's theme from ORAS: Wally was no joke in these games. He was pretty much a much much better version from his RSE one. The way he encounters you in the Victory Road, the fight, and the battle theme will give you chills, no doubt. This is why Wally is at Number 9
For Number 8, we have Cynthia's team ( DPPT/UNOVA GAMES): Uh, I never rlly had much difficulty when I faced Cynthia the first time. So the theme sure was intense but Rlly didn't give that experience which other themes like these gave me. But the Theme slaps hard. Ngl. It's amazing. If i had a more memorable battle with her back then this def would have gone up
For number 7, we have Iris's theme from ( B2W2): Every theme gives a personality to the opponent you face with that theme. But but but, Iris's theme was perfect for her. It showed that she was still the kid inside but shouldn't be messed around with. Iris's team was pretty much a nightmare so this battle and theme, I heard multiple times. It's soo cool! Iris's theme is an underrated masterpiece.
For Number 6, we have Hugh's theme (B2W2): Tbh, this wasn't really this good for my taste until a few months back. If this list was made back then, I believe it would have been in Honourable mentions. But the more I listened to it, the more i liked it. I listened to it most of the time from Pokemon Showdown and it grew on me. And on replaying the games, his personality and attitude seems to mix well in that theme. Hence why Hugh's theme is at number 6.
For Number 5, we have May's battle theme ( specifically ORAS one): It was quite opposite for me from Number 6. I heard it first in Showdown but it was just meh for me. But then as I played ORAS, and when this played during the rival battle I was like "Oh my god! This is where this theme fits best!!" It very much matches May's personality ( idk about Brendan cause I'm a boy and played as a boy). The theme grew on me
For Number Four: Hau's battle theme ( SM USUM) and Barry's Battle Theme ( DPPT)
This Is a tie. My love for Hau's theme grew from a mixture of Showdown and the mainline games. This is so fun to listen to and is pretty much summing up Hau's personality. His Jolly personaliy of just wanting to have fun instead of being the best. That's why I love this theme so much
And as for Barry. His theme is perfect. His impatient attitude is reflected in the theme. And the more I heard it in Pokemon Showdown, the more I loved it.
For Number Three, it's a Tie between Leon's Battle (swsh) and Ash Greninja Theme( Pokemon XYZ ANIME): Leon's Battle theme is literally the crowd playing the Kanto Hall of Fame theme. Which means they are pretty confident that Leon will stay the champion and that he's still the immediate winner for him. It just adds so much more personality to Leon than what the games already did to him.
Ash Greninja theme however just rocks. It's basically the Opening for the XYZ anime but adding it during the transformations and battles makes it even better. I'm sure this theme has a fanbase of it's own.
For Number Two we have Ultra Necrozma Theme from USUM: This theme is beyond perfection. I mean how can it be so intimidating, fun and intense at the same time? You are facing an Ultimate Pokemon Boss who has it's own Ultimate Boss theme which is arguably the best masterpiece battle theme by Pokemon. It sweeping our Pokemon at the same time makes it even more memorable. And us trying again and again to beat that thing also makes it even more memorable.
And Number One is
Gym Battle Theme ( SwSh, Pokemon Journeys): Yeah I definitely didn't put any fan favourite Gym theme here ( Unova Fans staring at me lmao) but this is my opinion list. i put what i want 😂
It has that different vibe. As a Football fan, it reminds me of the Premier League. The Gym battle is being held in a damned Stadium. Can it get even more dope? Yea, by adding a Masterclass Battle theme!
The crowd singing along never fails to bring chills. When you Dynanamax that Pokemon and you hear the fans cheering for your opponent, you feel determined to beat em. That's how cool it is!
And the anime version, ohohoho, better than the Game one
So there you go, these are my Top Ten Battle Themes from Pokemon Mainline games and the anime
Thanks for reading patiently all this time ( if you did, that is), hope ya have a great day
